I've been looking to buy one, and could use suggestions on what brand to get. Any feedback will be much appreciated. 4951

@bp2018: if your grass is st augustine i would not recommrnd a reel mower. They tend to not do as well on long bladed grass. However,if you have bermuda or zoysia then it will work much better. I would look for a silent reel where the blade and cutting surface do not meet.

A push model @ProblemAgain

Thanks for the tip! @buddyboy Our grass in the front yard is a long blade (not a grass expert here) but the back yard is much shorter. I figured it should do well in at least one of the areas. 4951

I use a reel mower, it is great for between real mowings to keep it short but I wouldn't suggest it for every day use.If the yard gets the least little tall it is is almost impossible for the reel

@Stealth83:
Which one do you use? I mainly want one to help keep the yard maintained without having to bring out the gas mower every 3 days.

Meh they probably just need a little polishing. Things back then were made right and built to last. 4951

I use one...and have St Augustine...and it gets long.  LOLIf you let St Augustine get long and thick, it can be pretty hard to push it through.  Generally when that happens I'll take smaller swipes and then come back down the same path so it gets cut twice.  I have one spot in my yard where that wire grass likes to sprout up.  Sometimes I have to cut past that and then pull the mower backwards over the wire grass to bend it back so it gets in the blade.  It's not too big a deal.  I love pretty much everything about mine except for the fact that sweet gum balls will bring it to an instant stop.  You just have to spin the blade backwards with your foot but it can throw off your mojo if you have a good pace going.To be sure, they are not as easy as using a gas mower but I like the workout and I like being able to cut my grass at 7am without my neighbors throwing rocks at me. 4951

@shodan66:
Sounds like a great way to get some exercise! I'm not usually a morning person, so I need something that will keep my neighbors from throwing rocks at me when I try to mow at 11pm Emoticon What kind do you use? I'm taking a poll lol. Better yet, you wanna go shopping with me? LOL!

@bp2018: Scott's 14".  I don't remember if I got it at Lowes or Homedepot but it was cheap and has done a great job for me for a few years.  I have a corner lot but there's a lot of landscaping and not really all that much grass.
