@lola: Â Are you referring to a window A/C or one you can move around the house?
@Retired_Engineer:
Do you know of any decent ones that don't have to be window-vented? We have a room upstairs that's always warm in the summer, but the windows in that room definitely aren't conducive to a window unit (even with adapters). Will eventually have to rework the a/c system for that area (procrastinating lol), but so far, no luck in finding a portable a/c unit for guests there that don't have to be vented somewhere and/or aren't a pain/mess with water, etc.
Heat circulation in the winter not a problem at all in that room some reason (it's right next to the attic).
@brightlights: Â Realize that an air conditioner is really a heat transfer device. Â If you don't have a place to vent the hot air from the condensing coil (the big coil outside on house A/C units), then the hot air stays inside the house, defeating the purpose of the unit. Â The best portable A/C units draw in outside air to cool the coil and then blow the hot air back outside.We had looked at them because my son's room stayed hot. Â But his room is 2nd floor facing the street. Â Community rules don't allow window units which can be seen. Â We ended up using a couple of fans to blow air into his room.The window unit in our master bedroom is ground floor and cannot be seen by anyone.
@Retired_Engineer:
That's what I thought.
I kind of agree with the visible window unit rule. I'd never do that, even if it was allowed or feasible (my dh would, though
lol ). No one wants to look at those driving through the 'hood.
I think we just need some duct work done. Maybe this winter!
