What the heck,,,, this is dumb... Now we have to have armed guards at a McDonalds.I would have said no on this jury... Those kids were in a known bad location and still went there. I don't stop at certain gas stations or fast food places after dark, in certain areas of town. Yes McD's should have called the cops,,, but still.I feel for the family, but many times its the life you choose to live, or hang out at.http://www.kbtx.com/home/headlines/Jury-Awards-27-Million-In-McDonalds-Lawsuit-Over-Teens-Deaths-269278801.html  BRYAN – A Brazos County jury awarded a $27 million verdict in a civil lawsuit against McDonald’s following the 2012 deaths of two Blinn College students.Denton James Ward, 18, of Flower Mound, and Lauren Bailey Crisp, 19, of Dripping Springs were killed when they ran a red light at Texas and Holleman Drive. They were on their way to the hospital after being beaten by a mob at the McDonald’s on University Drive.Their parents claim the deaths could have been avoided if McDonald’s had hired security guards to prevent the fights that had happened regularly over the past year.“We hope this verdict sends a powerful message to McDonald’s and other companies that protecting customers is more important than late-night revenue,” says attorney Chris Hamilton. “The night these two kids died, this was a dangerous location, and McDonald’s knew it. Yet they did nothing to prevent their senseless deaths 4951

Did the people who attacked them go to jail?Had the boys known how to drive, they wouldn't be dead.  The mob didn't kill them.  They were killed after running a red light. 4951

McDonalds should require proof of IQ before entering.  This is similar to the woman that bought a cup of coffee from McD, spilled it on herself, then sued McD because they should have warned her the coffee was hot!  Emoticon 4951

@Retired_Engineer:
I was in NM when that happened... the story behind the story was...she filed several complaints prior to the manager about the coffee being so hot. She had even written McD's HQ about the coffee. At the time the temp was  be 97 degrees for the coffee.She also requested that she get half a cup with ice so it would be cool. She had also complained that the lids would not stay on... so one day, she got coffee and it was all messed up... $$$ bucks later,, but not worth the damage to her ummmm  skin in her lap. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: there was a LOT more to that story. the coffee was so hot that when it spilled on her, it caused third degree burns and sloughed large swaths of skin from her legs and crotch. it was severe enough that she was in the intensive care unit for a long period of time and had to have skin grafts to cover the exposed muscle tissue where the skin had sloughed off from the burns.

the reason that story was so spread so wide is the story without the facts was used to push for tort reform, the idea being that without the actual details, the story sounds like a get rich quick shyster scheme. in texas it helped pass tort reform that limits damages paid by firms even in the event of intentional and reckless negligence 4951

Thanks for the additional info on the McD coffee.  However, even with that additional info, she KNEW the coffee was very hot and the lids may not fit great.  SHE chose to put the cup in her crotch knowing that.That is sort of like putting a scorpion in your underwear and then blaming someone else when it stings you. 4951

the brewing temperature of the machines were set wrong at that mcd's and the coffee was delivered to customers at or above the temperature to  scald. it was their fault. 4951

"she KNEW the coffee was very hot and the lids may not fit great."@Retired_EngineerI
have to disagree...I might do something foolish with coffee because I
assume that if I spill it will be pretty painful, and maybe leave a red
welt for a couple days...It's not reasonable for McDonalds to make coffee so hot that spilling it leaves you in the hospital for 8 days... 4951

@ProblemAgain@kingwooddotcomPoint taken.  I still think the woman was at least a LITTLE at fault for putting the cup in her crotch, but she suffered MORE than her share.Obviously, I had not heard the entire story.   4951
