My son and I went to the shooting range today.  I got to try out my Ruger LC9 and LCP.  My son mostly shot my SIG P226.  Both Rugers shot very well once you get used to the semi-double action trigger pull.  The hammer is partially cocked when the slide is cycled.  I found that I can't use Hornady Critical Duty in the LC9 (while carrying) at this time.  The sharp end of the round caught a couple of times on the feed ramp.  I am going to polish the ramp and try again.  It shoots fine with more rounded end bullets.  Hornady's Critical Duty shoots fine in my SIGs and Hornady's .380 Critical Defense shoots fine in the LCP.   I will feel comfortable carrying either of these guns.  I bought them because the smaller SIG P239 I have is still pretty heavy and bulky for concealed carry.  Recoil is more noticeable in these small guns but were not painful. Personal Observations/Opinions:While we were there, there were three couples and one lone woman shooting.  From the discussions, it appears that most of the women were just starting or still learning to shoot.  While I think it is absolutely great that more women are learning how to shoot, but they need to be careful on who they get to teach them.  Your husband or boyfriend may not be the best choice.  One lady was obviously just learning to shoot and the guy that was with her keep telling her to "hurry.... a guy could be running at you right now."  Adding that kind  of pressure to a novice shooter is not only unnecessary, I feel it is detrimental to them developing their skills and abilities.  Also, every woman was shooting at silhouette targets.  When anyone is just learning to shoot a gun, they should shoot at bullseye targets ONLY so they can get the process of holding the gun, lining up the sights, squeezing the trigger, and recovering from the recoil.  Silhouette targets are simply too big of a target to get you to focus on the target. Only after a shooter has become VERY comfortable with those basics and doing well hitting the bullseyes should they move on to silhouette targets.  After a person has become reasonably skilled with their handgun, they can then practice quicker shooting at silhouettes.  That's my 2 cents worth. 4951

@cgm10sne1:  For handguns, I went to the indoor range at Sportsman's Outlet in Humble.  But I will have to go elsewhere in the future.  With my lower back pain, I can't stand for long before I need to sit down.  I brought a folding chair with me (as I have before), but OSHA told Sportsman's Outlet that chairs were a problem in case of an emergency as they could block people trying to exit (OSHA has gone from ridiculous to idiotic!).  I had to stop shooting several times and step out of the range to sit for a few minutes.

@Nurse3:  Being able to shoot reactive targets (balloons, cans, crackers, etc) are much more fun than shooting paper targets, but you have to have a safe place to shoot like that.

@Retired_EngineerThat is great and I love the SIG 226. I sometimes go to sportsman outlet but since receiving benefits from Hot Wells I have stopped going.  My next project is shooting the AR 300 Blackout. 4951

@retired_Engineer you should start a business. There is a huge market for beginning shooters needing a coach. I need one. 4951
