So if you know from a prior post, I just hate the whole flying experience. So I did go 1st class so I could get a seat to fit my fat ****. But I didn’t know about the added benefits that a 3 times the cost gets you. They said be there 75 minutes in advance of your departure.I had an 8 oclock departure, so I got to Bush Airport at 6:30 AM.Well checked my one (free per included in the 1st class cost) bag and went to security.OH, I get to move to the head of the line. And even at 6:40 there was a line. And since I was flying Delta, I was terminal A, not near as crowded as C/E usually is.SO after going through the way-back machine, I find myself at the gate ready to go at 6:50.Dang, if I had know that....Also I get board first (well almost first, small children and disabled go first).Plus I get a seat with it's own ARM RESTS!Leg room, and when the person in front reclines their seat, it doens't hit me in the face!Free drinks (I only drank water, but that is another story.)And free snacks, peanuts, cookies (prepackaged) and between Houston and Altlanta a banana.Don't know why Atlanta to Greensville-Spartanburg didn't have banana's, but such is life.So it is going OK, no real drama or stress for a change. So I get my bag at GSP airport (one of the first bags off, another 1st class advantage) but no rent a cars. The rent a car places are suppose to be in the baggage claim area.Nope, it is under construction, with jack hammers adding a terrible noise to the process.I walk back and forth looking, into ticketing, look at the terminal map, dragging my heavy butt suitcase (HBS) the whole time. Then I notice a little sigh saying rental cars in garage A.So I cross to garage A, nice outside, 85 degrees, low humidity, a slight breeze.Signs for 5 rental car places, but not Alamo (that what's I get for being Texas proud and going Alamo). So down 4 steps dragging my HBS, signs say two on level 2 (where I am) and 3 on level 1.The elevators are slow, and there is mob of people. So I go out and investigate, no Alamo on level 2.Elevators have an even larger crowd now, so I hump the HBS down a flight of stairs and check out level 1.I can see all three down there, no Alamo. What the heck!So I drag HBS back up the stairs, and check level 2 again. No Alamo. One more time back down to level 1, no Alamo.Elevators no crowd, so I take it back up to level 2 (street level) go outside and CALL ALAMO.After pressing 1 for English, and a couple more menu choices, I get elevator music. After a few minutes I get, In an heavy Indian accent, "Hello, How may I help you?" I'm at Greenville-Spartanburg airport and I can't find the Alamo desk. Do you know where it is?What country are you calling from?(thought bubble, what country are you in)I'm in South Carolina at Greenville-Spartanburg airport and I can't find the Alamo desk."Let me check that for you sir."Elevator music for 5 minutes. But it is a very nice day so I am ok."Sir, the Alamo desk is in the baggage claim area."Um, No it isn't, it is under construction and there are NO rental car desks there.I can find (rattle off the other 5 because I am looking at their signs) but no Alamo."Sir, let me connect you to the local Alamo desk."More elevator music for a few minutes.Recording "We thank you for calling Alamo and your call is important to us. Please stand by until someone can assist you."More elevator music, this goes on for about 3 cycles.Glad it is a nice day or I would be pretty mad about now. Finally a different recording, The Alamo desk at GSP is located on level 1 of the parking garage A Blaa, BlaaI listen through the whole recording and then ask it to be repeated once more just to be sure.So I head down to level 1 again, but at least I can take the elevator.Still no Alamo, but this time I choose to walk all the way down, instead of half way. I mean, I can each sign, each desk is a little divider wall between them.I get to the end, and when I get around that divider wall at National, in the right lower corner (hidden from view unless you actually walk around the divider) is a little sign about the size of a bumper sticker that says Alamo.Geesh, would be nice if that was a tad more prominent. So I get up there (I have a reservation for a mid-sized car) and they take my reservation number, etc.He comes with a set of PODS connected by a cable, each about the size of a 8 Oz. soda can.Sir, you qualify for a free upgrade to a SUV!I don't want a free upgrade, I just want a car.You don't want the free upgrade?I'd rather have a car.Well we are out of cars right now.Do you have a different size car?We are out of all cars. You may sit and wait until one comes in.I'll take the SUV.Dodge Journey.Drives like a boat.Doesn't even have the things in it my Civic si has, but it does have 2 speedometers, one digital and one analog.Like I need that.It was horrible in the hills of NC with all the curves. I was so wanting my si. And on hills it was always loosing speed, and down shifting usually twice to get back up to speed. Not to mention body roll in the curves. At least it was quite inside. 4951

Shame you can't get 1st class service with rental cars.

I have had limited opportunities to sit in 1st class but boy is it awesome in comparison to coach. International 1st class is even cushier. I sure miss my husband's job rolling in the frequent flyer miles! 4951

@Annie:  When I was doing a lot of traveling, I did have "first class" service with Hertz.  When I arrived at my destination and got on the bus to the rental car lot, I gave my name to the driver.  When the van/bus got to the lot, the van would go directly to my car (before it dropped anyone else off). It had the keys and my documents already in the car.  I had to show my ID  and the documents to the guard at the exit.

We all want to know how your brother and sil were.  Did you scare them?

@Fallon: Maybe it is the fact the kids have all left the house now, IDK, but it was a good visit, very sociable with out preaching. Of course since they had to leave Indiana a few years ago because his job moved from Muncie to Seneca, they also had to change churches, and type of churches. I don't believe Church of the Nazarene has any near them. So that might have made a slight difference also.
And since my brother got forced into going to work for a few hours each morning, I had plenty of SIL time to myself. Over all it was a pretty good visit, considering the circumstance.I got to sleep on the ROPE bed also, which turned out to be pretty confortable.Like this:With a mattress that looks like this: 4951

@Annie:  If you can afford it, 1st class is the only way to go.  My first time flying first class was just after I joined my current company.  We did an around the world tour, visiting most of our local offices.  Took Singapore Air (my favorite airline) out of LA to Honolulu on a 747.  The upper deck was converted to a sleeping lounge, with flight attendants to tuck you in.  Continued on Singapore Air to Singapore, then to Abu Dhabi, British Air to London and Aberdeen then home on British Caledonian.  I don't think I could have done that if I had to fly coach.
