So my store has been looking to hire a few more people since we're kinda short handed. The applications some of these people turn in and the way they act when asking for one or turning one in is so sad it's funny.

For instance, had one guy walk up looking like he rolled outta bed and mumbled something that I couldn't hear. When I politely asked him to repeat himself, he cops an attitude and tells me he wants an application. He then proceeds to ask if he can get a free drink and some samples while he fills out his application. Seriously? Oh, and under the question asking what languages you speak fluently, he replies both... 4951

This isn't nearly as bad, but still funny.

I was working in the HISD HR dept processing resumes several years ago. This one applicant listed among her job duties at a previous job, "proofeading."

That's one heck of a skill set, honey. 4951

@bp2018 - are these positions paying minimum wage? Since I have been looking for a job this past month, I have noticed companies are expecting way too much from a minimum wage position. Or they want at least 2 years experience - and they'll start you at $8.00/hr. I am looking for a higher level position but still read a lot of these openings. In this day and age, how can a person put gas in their car and dress appropriately getting paid $8/hr? 4951

My all time favorite was having an applicant show up smacking gum.  Massive pet peeve of mine.  Don't be smacking gum in public, and never do this on an interview.

@Fallon:

I don't think you should be eating or drinking anything at an interview. That's just me though. 4951

@jls2:

Yes they're minimum wage unfortunately. The company requires a lot from anyone in management , but the minimum wage positions aren't that bad. Seriously all they expect you to do is show up on time, be polite to customers, make their drinks, and clean up after yourself. I don't see anybody making a living off of it, but it's good for people just wanting some extra cash or looking for experience. 4951

Those are different. I'm talking about a standard office type interview.

I once interviewed a young lady who was dressed like a hooker, and who flirted with me throughout the interview.  I immediately thought "she's trying to get hired so she can file a sexual harassment claim."  I moved the interview along at a quick pace.When she departed, a young lady who worked for me said "I don't think you should hire her.  She has filed sexual harassment claims at a number of places." 4951
