Finally tried Nails of America yesterday and I have to say I was not impressed at all and won't be going back.

The water was cold and they didn't make it any hotter even when I asked, it didn't have any jets for when your feet were soaking, no bath salts or anything.

Unfortunately I haven't had a pedicure in a few months so I really needed it.  She cut the cuticles for less than 2 minutes total.  She then asked if I wanted to change the type of pedicure I was getting because the type I requested at first that was $27.00 didn't get your feet scrubbed or smoothed.

The polish was on my toes and I had to request to have it removed.  The chair was pretty cool with a leg massager but I kept feeling like I was going to hit the polish on the chair.

It was $44.00 before tip and I will not go back.  I wanted to try it before I commented on the thread that I found out this morning has been locked.  Tried it once and wasted my money.  Won't be back.

I will stick with Nail Spot.  They do a much better job even when Helen yells.  That seems to be her way and they are much cheaper. 4951

I have never understood the elaborate pedicure thing. I've had them and just don't get the whole thrill of it.i have to constantly argue with them to NOT remove my calluses ( they are there for a purpose when I run), I can do a much better job, less expense, don't feel like I'm wasting time just sitting there and I don't have someone messing with my feet. Guess I'm not girly enough. First world problems I guess. 4951

@Jpgurl: Thank you. I thought I was the only one that dislikes pedis. I like the end result but it's torture during.

I haven't had a pedicure in years. Where is the best place to go around here? Do any of them use that razor blade thing anymore? 4951

My 18 yo daughter has been there 4 or 5 times and it's just gotten worse with each trip. They never charge the same thing twice and have become increasingly rude with every trip back. Two weeks ago was the last straw for her. They cut her cuticles to the point of bleeding and charged her $12 more for her pedicure because they did something she specifically asked them not to do. They said she should have stopped them, however she didn't know that they were doing something extra since she TOLD them she didn't want anything but a simple pedi.... I figured they were always just taking advantage of her because she's young, but it seems that might just be standard procedure. 4951

@Jpgurl:
I guess I'm different because I LOVE having my feet and lower legs massaged.

I also go because I tend to get ingrown toe nails and if I try to get them out myself I usually end up cutting them wrong, making them bleed and I once ended up giving myself  nail fungus because I cut to much out and water was able to get under there.  It's easier going to the nail salon and they usually get them out in 2 seconds and it's painless when they do it.

I had my ingrown toe nails taken off my 2 big toes and I would never in my life do that procedure again.  I think that was more painful than a c-section.

Nail spot does use the razor to get the calluses off.  Nails of America used a cheese grater.

I've gone to several nail salons. I have a favorite next to J Alexanders. The gal I always ask for has strong hands and give a great rub. Tina I think is her name. I do the "happy feet" 24 bucks. Well worth it. I'd never been to a nail salon in my 49 years until I moved here. I have some major calluses as well....but I appreciate the cheese grater they use to get the rough stuff off. It comes back in 2 weeks! It's my new favorite pampering thing.  4951

@cgm10sne1: You made me laugh out loud!  I can totally relate to the cheese grater thing!  When my daughter goes with me, she just dies when they whip that thing out!  We go to Eagle Nails on Atascocita Rd.  They all get to jibber-jabbering then all look at one person.  You always know when they are talking about you!  LOL!

Nails of America - which place it that? I have gone to the place next to the new Kroger twice, now (as recently as this past Saturday), and neither time have I had an issue. In fact, I had an expired coupon for them, and they let me use it. For me, something as simple as looking at nicely done toes (mine, of course) makes me feel good about myself and my image. I don't get all dolled up with makeup, clothes, etc., so I am by no means a "girlie girl"! lol It also allows me of "me" time every 5-6 weeks, followed by alone grocery shopping time (Moms, can you hear the angels singing?!).But, to each their own! 4951

It is ILLEGAL to use Credo blades.  If they are using them on your feet you should run from that place also. 4951

I haven't been back to a nail salon since one of them cut me with the dremel and my fingertip was bleeding. I started to think... Did they cut the person before me? Did that person have Hepatitis or HIV? I don't think they sterilize the dremel tips. *heebie jeebies * 4951

@RetiredAFWife:
I did not know this.  I remember having had them use them in the past because I always worried about how they know how much to take off.

I know they usually use the white liquid and the scrubber.

Is the cheese grater illegal also?

I used to go to the Nail Spot on North Park before I 'retired' and moved away. The few times I had pedicures, they never used a blade...always the grater thing. I would never let someone in a nail salon use a blade on me!!! 4951

@ctl74: It is the one next to Kroger.

I hear you on the mommy time.  When I said I was going my DD immediately said oh I can go with you and pick out your color.  I said nope - this is mommy time.

Plus she just got hers done 2 weeks ago when her grandmother was visiting.  They still look cute. 4951
