We just moved to Kingwood this summer and my mom has always watched my 2 year old daughter while I was teaching. Wondering if I should put her in a "regular" day care or if I should do the mother's day out route like Strawbridge Methodist Preschool. The only problem is they are only open 9:30-2:30 3 days a week. What do moms do who work? Do you get someone to come to your home the rest of the time???  4951

Mothers Day Out isn't sufficient for childcare if you work full time. You would really have to go with a daycare. 4951

Daycare or in-home sitter, depending on what you want - there are pros and cons to both! 4951

Kids R Kids and Primrose are excellent all day programs.  Some moms might disagree, but structured professioal day care, when necessary for working moms, really helps socialize kids sooner and shape their persoalities, and well-being.  From full-time daycare, we moved into Montessori at about age 3 until the start of elementary school.

My SIL always sheltered her kids with home schooling, extremely limited TV/movies, private church schools, etc.  Now, one is ready for college and is the most shy, ill-adjusted girl her age I have ever seen.  She is going away for college and I gotta tell you, I'm very worried about her ability to cope with the real world.

Mine, on the other hand, can walk into a room, even back in elementary, and practically own it with a strong, self-assured, uber social personality. I have no doubt about abilities to adjust in later years. I will not have to worry a bit about an ability to function in the real world, because we taught strong values, yet age-appropriately exposed to real life.    4951

My daughter was one of the first children signed up at Kids R Kids on Lake Houston Pkwy.  It was not even completed yet.  We love the Kilgore Family and they put up with alot from us.  As a first time Mom I questioned everything and they handled me beautifully.  LOL!  Today my daughter is a smart, beautiful, thriving, social, hard-working 19 year old who is attending college.  I highly recommend them.  The staff may have changed but the facility is still owned and operated by the Kilgores.  Good luck with your decision.  Never an easy one. 4951

Unfortunately unless you make big bucks it's very hard to do mothers day out with a sitter also if you work full time.  It can get very expensive for in home daycares.

My DD is 9 and goes to LaPetite.  She loves it.  They have been doing some awesome field trips this summer.

As @donnatella said - you don't want to shelter them too much because then they don't know what's out there in the world.  My DD is one of the kids that always gets put with the kids that are alittle bit more on the troubled side to try and help them stay on the straight and narrow.  Prime example was yesterday on a field trip, there was a kid that was miss behaving and they immediately new they could put my kid in any situation and she would be fine so they moved her to a different bus and put the kid in her seat because he needed more attention on the ride and at the museum.

I just told her last night how proud I was of her.  She showed since Kindergarden that she was going to be a great kid.  They had too many kids at her school and brought in a new teacher and she was moved from her class along with 18 other kids and she adjusted great.

Good luck on your search for the best child care.  Make sure you do your homework because some of the places are a bit shady in my opinion and you have a young child that will not be able to tell you everything like an older kid can. 4951

My 3 year daughter attends Primrose on Kingwood Dr. and loves it! She used to attend Kids R Kids but was getting injured by the same classmate so we pulled her. I toured 4 day cares in Kingwood and Primerose was the only one I felt comfortable in. Kids R Kids was a good school when she wasnt getting injured. A 2 year old will probably run you 220 - 240 a week with a good day care. I looked through a bunch of old threads for this forum and looked at everyone's opinion and recommendation then took a day to tour the day cares. I did tour Kingwood Montessori and it was great but I didnt want to put her in a classroom setting just yet. 4951

Studies have proven over and over and OVER that it is a myth that a child who does not go to day care or who is home-schooled will not fare as well. Now I will add that some kids are just shy or stand offish whether in home-school, day care, individual care, or public or private school(mine is one) but when one meets a shy child or a stand offish child that is in public school they figure its just the kids personality but when they are that way and home-schooled everyone immediately thinks mom sheltered them and they are like that because of home-school...not true and I can post as much as anyone wants to prove that point.... Emoticon Its not a sin to be an introvert or a sign of an unadjusted child if they are introverted. God made us all different for a reason... :-)You will need to find out what best fits your needs and the needs of a child and your financial needs. I prefer individual in-home care for preschoolers if you find someone that teaches, plays and does activities with the child. If they just sit them in front of the TV ......well then go for a good preschool program.Don't think they start till 3 yrs old but our school district does offer free public preschool and it isn't too hard to get in so look into that option also. 4951

@Burnsway:
I think for pre school there are certain requirements that have to be met.  I know when I looked into it years ago one of the requirements was being part of foster care/CPS. 4951

@dotti573: It use to be a head start program but few years back it has changed some. There are still some restrictions but I have met a few parents with kids in it that say it is way easier to get into now than it was 5 years ago. But yes there are some requirements that have to be met.
