We just moved to Kingwood and I am looking for things to do. We are looking for a baptist church that has an outstanding youth program. Also, any home school groups in the area? We have lived here over a month and have not met anyone yet who has kids our kids ages. Any info is greatly appreciated Emoticon 4951

Welcome!  Get badges for local  pools, always kids there. Check out the event & camp tabs up top on this page. The Library has things going on & post them on the other local forum usually or just call or stop in. Also I think the YMCA does things. Sorry I don't have kids here so I'm not up on everything. But there are a bunch of resourceful people on here who will have other suggestions.Emoticon 4951

There are many folks who home school. I agree with thegoodwife get your badge for the pools and you'll meet lots of kids and moms. I don't have young children either. But I guarantee they are everywhere....I hear their high pitched schrills all the time! Emoticon 4951

Second Baptist has a HUGE childrens program. As a matter of fact, go check out their vacation bible school today from 9-12. The kids will love it.

Welcome to Kingwood!
Jax is right on the money!  We belong to Second Baptist Church that there isn't a better program for kids in Houston.  My wife has been volunteering for VBS this week and says the kids are just loving it.  So many good things for the kids and the adult programs are awesome too!

How old are your kids?  We have a son who is almost two.  When we first moved here we didn't meet anyone either until we started going to Second Baptist Church on Saturday nights and got hooked up with the Lighthouse Bible Study.  After service we all go out to dinner together and have tons of events throughout the year including sports teams, pool parties, holiday get togethers, kids play dates, ladies nights, mens nights, date nights, game nights amongst other things.  With how busy our lives are Lighthouse has been the best and easiest way to meet friends that all have kids and we have things in common in the area.

Thank you all for all the information. We actually are renting an apartment so we have access to a pool, which has been a lifesaver. The only problem is that when we go out, it's full of older couples, really young childless couples, or people with smaller kids. we have an 11 and 15 yr old. While they are used to being around young children since I ran a home day care their entire lives, I think they need to make friends their ages lol. With us deciding to home school again, it's a must since we are new here. In Kentucky they had friends they had known their whole lives. I will check out all the home school info you guys sent my way Emoticon As far as church, we were just looking into second baptist last night! We had it narrowed down to Second Baptist and First Baptist of Porter. I have heard great things about both. Ok, one more question, is there anywhere that allows you to advertise personal business services for this area? I paid the fee to list my ad on Kingwood yard sales, but was wondering if there is anywhere else. I know you can't put it on here in the classifieds. Thanks so much everyone! God bless you all!  4951

I too have heard great things about Woodbridge I think it has a smaller home town feel than second baptist, but you can't go wrong with either of them...   I have really good friends who homeschool and they go to Wooddridge.    Good Luck and Welcome!! 4951

@dcssk14: We do have a classified section you can use here. Not sure if there is a fee for business. Its only the forums you can not advertise on. Go check out the classifieds, should be a link uptop. If you join heart be sure to join us for park days starting back up when school starts. Its for elementary but many older sibblings are there. My daughter is 9 but she hangs out with many 11 and 12...she is very tall and is mistaken as a preteen all the time.....LOLHeart has some really cool get togethers for middle and highschool so you will find a place to fit right in!There are also some other homeschool groups that are smaller. Many in our group are members of 2 or 3....I can only keep up with one...HA!Trust me when I say we have a ton of home schoolers in Kingwood , Porter and humble. Since you just moved you just haven't had a chance to meet them yet. I was worried when I first started and was amazed once I joined a group and started asking around just how many children around here are homeschooled!

2nd Baptist does have a great children's programTue and Thursday 10 am movies at Show Biz.  They are really cheap. The library always has something going for young kids on up to teenagers.I agree with everyone else when they said the pools.  Go there often and you will meet lots of people with kids.  Check out the swim team for your village as well.  They have a team for most every age I believe. There is lots to do around here if you look on the Kingwood.com site and check out the home page.  Just keep looking and you'll find something that will appeal to you and your kids. 4951

I believe you can purchase a pool tag if you don't own or rent a house in Kingwood.  When I lived in Town Center we had the same issue that it was all older or early 20's at the pool.  Usually they were drinking and rough housing in the pool so it made it difficult to take my 3 year old without her getting a lesson from them that I didn't want her to learn.  I think back then it was $125 to buy a tag.  I know with our tags each one you can take 2 people.

Welcome to Kingwood.  I love it here and if you decide to send your kids to public school, Kingwood has great schools. 4951
