AH, HELL NO!
Time to get the resume ready. One of my first office jobs was in a small law firm that had trouble making payroll.  After the first "no go" on payday, I was out of there.

About 6 years ago, the law firm I worked at had a bank glitch that interrupted the midnight direct deposit, but between the bank and the firm, they made good on any issues anyone had with their banks with automatic car or house notes, late fees, etc.  That was inconvenient for some, but it wasn't a matter of not making payroll and it only happened once in about 15 years.

Sometime these things happen.  What is really telling is how they correct it. Hang in there.. 4951

Payroll is the easiest thing in the world to do. If they mess up your check, find a new job. 4951

I once worked for a company where several employees had their paycheck bounce. Several times in a row! Once word got around there would be a long line of people walking across the courtyard cashing their paychecks for cash on payday. We'd all be walking around half the day with thousands of dollars in our pockets. 4951

After 2 weeks of work, I only received the paycheck from orientation day which was from the last week of June. I called them today to check whatever happened to my other check. Not even an apology, basically just said we had to verify your time from the first week's work so you should be getting it this Friday plus your second week's pay (I get paid weekly). Left a bad impression on me already. What **** me off even more is I turned in my papers, as required every Monday before noon, which I did. Drove 2 hours back and forth just to drop it off on time. Then, I get this BS..... 4951

I've heard of that happening with a first paycheck.  Some places have slow movers in Accounting and it takes a full pay cycle to get someone set up in the system.  It still sucks.  4951

Should have just mailed it then, it's basically what it looks as if I turned my papers beyond the allotted time. Didn't matter if it was on time or not, still got a late paycheck. Wish they followed through the rules on their end. I was counting on that paycheck. I'm just airing out my disappointment and frustration. 4951

With it being a first paycheck, I would give them a little bit of a break. Sometimes it takes a little bit to get everything through the system. If you have problems again, it's time to find a new job. Payroll is a piece of cake. No reason to continuously have problems. 4951

Your first check always screws you because they have to get payroll started. When you start a new job,, expect not to get a pay check for 2-3 week, after you start. when I started this job,  I got a check for 3 days, and then no check for almost a month,, they finally got a regular check. 4951

@donnatella:
If using adp. The largest payroll processor in the country it will literally take 1 to 2 minutes to set someone up. Direct deposit can also usually be set up for the first check but some banks will require verification which will sometimes move it to the next period. Like I said. Payroll is simple and you have to almost try to mess it up.

Main reason was someone did not verify my work hours like he/she should, someone overlooked it. Even asked if I turned in my papers on the deadline. In my head, I was thinking, I hope you're not going to put the blame on me because you saw me come in that day. First time in my professional career to encounter this issue.  4951

On the orientation day, the company assured me of the weekly pay as long as the required papers are submitted every Monday before noon. I happily complied. Like I said, never encountered this issue before so it is frustrating when I did all that I can on my end and they didn't. Just frustration and disappointment is all. If it happens again, then maybe someone can't do their job correctly. 4951

Yea we are looking at a hard month...someone bought out where hubby works and the new company is going to every other week pay day and on top of that holding back the first pay period as many companies do. So we will go almost a whole month without a check....:-(Not freaking out yet........YET..........LOL 4951

@Lalee: Withholding paychecks pending submission of required paperwork is almost always a violation of the timely payment provisions of the Texas Payday Law.From the manual at http://www.twc.state.tx.us/ui/lablaw/texas-payday-law.htmlYour first choice of action should be to work with your direct supervisor and/or HR department to ensure that you are completing the timecard properly.If delayed paychecks becomes a recurring issue, however, then keep the phone # to the Texas Workforce Commission Labor Law unit nearby.  (800-832-9243) 4951
