HPD's Kingwood Substation has received approval to add four additional officers to patrol the Kingwood area. Residents were publicly thanked at a July 9th meeting for calling attention to HPD Kingwood's staffing issues to Mayor Parker and Council Member Dave Martin. At the public safety meeting the Kingwood Service Association focused on the need and the cost to purchase a trail vehicle for HPD. Described as a "refurbished golf cart" the KSA took bids on a contractor to build a vehicle modified for off-road use that would allow officers to respond to emergency situations within East End Park. The bids came in at approximately $8,000. Some community members spoke out against the purchase saying the case is not strong enough to justify the expenditure. Officers with HPD commented that should there be a medical emergency the vehicle would allow them to transport someone out of the woods whereas current bike patrols are incapable of potential life saving operations.
