So we started out this morning at the Kingwood park and ride and rode downtown.  Apparently we missed our stop to transfer to the next bus to the college but we never heard the stop overhead that was on the website.  So the really, really nice bus drover took us to the best stop on her route to catch the metro rail because she said it was open.  We get off there and buy a rail ticket at this point and get on the rail to get off at the central line to transfer to the green line to go out to U of H.  Wellllll, we never heard that stop either, so we get off at the next stop.  We back tracked to where we thought the green line was supposed to start and realize it is all still under construction.  Okay, crap!At this point we wander all around down town trying to figure out where the main bus terminal is.  After about an hour and a half of walking this way and that, we found it and talked with a Great officer at the station who gave my daughter all kinds of advice on how to stay safe in the "Big City".  (My daughter has a very sweet, innocent face.)  Found a couple of route maps that we can try to decipher for the best route for her to take.We finally catch the bus out to the University and found our way back easily enough, but holly cow what an adventure.  I am truly not sure this is going to be her best bet for school this fall at this point until the rail line is open.  I think I need a drink! 4951

My daughter went from the KW Park & Ride to U of H every class day until she got her bachelor's. It worked out very well for her but there is that one place right there by the bail bond office and Minute Maid where she'll have to stand and wait. It's the least safe place but my daughter never did have to pull out her mace.  Good luck to your daughter, hopefully she'll find her way without any more confusion!   4951

We thought about that but there were more scholarships if she went straight to the university instead of the community college.Glad to hear that someone else's daughter has done this and done it very well.  That was the area that I worried about as well.  Once she is on the buses, she'll be fine, but since you have to transfer once it kind of worries me.  She has her orientation next week, so I am hoping that she may meet some folks from Kingwood and do a car pool until she gets more driving experience under her belt and we get time to have @MTechnique fix her car.  Both have to happen before I let her drive out of Kingwood.  LOL 4951

@Nurse3:  My son took the bus to UH for two years.  It's not too bad once you learn the routine.  He had a car but he could never find parking.

My son went to Saint Thomas High School every day.  As soon as he got his license, he was driving himself and he got lots of experience.   I heard from another mother whose son went to Saint Thomas that it was not safe to take the bus because you have to wait around for the bus.  I decided that my son would drive to school instead.    I know the area very well, because we would cut through  downtown by making a left by that bond/bail place to go to my son's school.  There are some shady characters that hang out there.  A lot of homeless people hang around there.  Tell her not to take classes at night. Can your daughter put on Facebook that she is looking for a ride?  She might find a former classmate that attends school there.  Tell her to network with her friends and ask if they know anyone that might be driving there.   4951
