Yesterday, I didn't get a picture because I was running late for work, but this HUGE beetle was on my back sidewalk. I tried to pick it up (it was walking) and it had so much strength, it could lift it's legs and force my fingers off it's shell. This thing was 2 - 2 1/2 inches long and about 3/4 - 1 inch wide.Looked almost like a huge june bug, the same dark brown color.Wish I could have gotten a pic. 4951

We had a strange bug similar to that, except it had huge long wings.  The fur babies went crazy trying to catch it and nearly lost their minds.  It was the most hideous looking bug I've seen in a long time.  I think one of them caught it coming in one of the doors then played with it a bit to bring it into the kitchen.  When I first saw it, I thought it was a tree bug/cockroach, but this one was much darker and the wings were much longer than it's body.  If I can find a picture of it on Google, I'll post it. 4951

This post goes to prove that Einstein was right! In some circles 2 1/2'' would not be considered huge by any stretch of the imagination! 4951

I had something like that a couple of weeks ago but it was jet black. The dogs were going crazy trying to get it. 4951

I wonder what it was? And we just saw a baby praying mantis on one of the potted plants. So cute! I hadn't seen one in years. 4951

That's funny, because on Kingwoodbugs.com Ladybeetle posted that she was grabbed by some "nosy human woman".  Ladybeetle said she could barely push off the human's fingers. 4951

I've seen a few like this one here before, since moving to TX.. I asked our bug guy once, and he said they come from Grubs. Different sizes, colors, etc.. of bugs/beetles, is because there are different types of Grubs. Our daughter found a dead one once, that was bigger around than a quarter.

that was bigger around than a quarter.

@BBQguy: That was the basic shape and color, but it had smooth, shiny wing covers, not those lined ones.
It's legs were way thicker and had more "spikes" on them. Also the middle section was shorter and was harder to tell where the head and center section met.Plus it had a spot on it's head between the eyes, sort of a circle, matte rather than shiny spot. And it was bigger round than a half dollar easy. 4951

@FoFa: That sounds exactly like the one my daughter found. It's the same one we saved for the bug guy to look at. It was 6 or so years ago, right after moving here. We were shocked, to say the least. Bigger than a half dollar?? Holy $#@%!! Emoticon
