I need your help in finding an awesome ENT.  My husband snores HORRIBLY!

We don't want a doctor that automatically/only suggests the cpap machine....sleep apnea seems like ADHD these days with everyone being diagnosed.

Another question.  Has anyone had the pillar procedure done?  It's considered cosmetic so insurance companies won't cover it.  4951

My husband snored like a freight train!  He would wake me up with his snoring, when I would wake up due to snoring, I would pinch his nose closed.  Woke him right up!He had that sleep study thing done and a CPAP machine, but we both went on a food reduction plan and now no more snoring.I think those machines are over rated! The noise from the machine was almost as bad as the snoring.  4951

I agree with @puzzles. Losing weight normally does the trick. If it is a sinus problem, then surgery might be the answer.  4951

@aggiebutterfly: I had the pillar procedure done at The Snoring Center and it did absolutely nothing for me. A complete waste of $3000!! An ex-coworker of mine had it done at the same place and it didn't work for him either.

An ENT will tell your husband that the best way to reduce snoring is to be at a healthy weight. If he's overweight, losing 10 or 15 pounds might help. 4951

I don't think that it's him being overweight...He's 6'2" and weighs 190 with a large frame.  Plus, when he weighed 170 he still snored like a freight train.  Ugh it's so bad.

@wskytngofxtrt
thanks for the info.  i've read both good and bad reviews thus far. 4951

@aggiebutterfly: I couldn't do the CPAP, made me feel like I needed to gasp for air. And it was beyond uncomfortable. Yes, I still snore. Not sure what the solution would be other than losing a few pounds. 4951

my hubby snores ! like a freight train with metal brakes !  He got the c-pap machine & it was wonderful , I could sleep at last ....my hubby is not over weight either  & it was not sinus  problems , he just was not getting enough oxygen . Well some how that c-pap machine did the trick  he used it for about a year & the snoring stopped , he has not used it in over 2 years & we are both sleeping well at night with no snoring. I keep the machine in the closet & if he does start to snore again the machine will come back out ......... 4951

My husbands doc told him it was the weight issue that was causing it to be so bad. He lost 15 pounds and the snoring has got a lot better. Still snores a little but not too bad. When I was pregnant I snored so bad I would wake myself up, got the breathe right strips and my snoring stopped 4951

He does. Not all the time though. The only thing that has helped is if I go to sleep before him. We go through a lot of sleeping pills. I have found that having him sleep with one pillow helps. He likes to sleep with his neck all kinked up. He'll snore bad that way. 4951

I use a CPAP machine and it has made a big difference for me.  Snoring was a result of sleep apnea.  I still snore sometimes, but it is not as bad, nor as often, as before.  I'm on a diet and have lost 20 lbs.  Still need to lose lots more.  The nasal strips helped me a little, but the snoring (and sleep apnea) comes from the soft palette so the strips don't affect those (or very little).  My CPAP machine makes very little noise.  I use a Phillips Respironics and all you hear is a small fan inside the machine.The snoring could be either due to being overweight or it could be a nasal/throat problem.  If sleep apnea is involved, you are putting extra stress on the heart and brain.  4951

@taramay:  Good move. Having the head lay more flat straightens the throat and helps keep the air passage more open.

When I was working his snoring would infuriate me. But now that I stay home it no longer makes me want to smother him in his sleep. On nights it's really bad, I just move to the guest room. 4951
