@FoFa: Drive - it's only about 30 minutes from Houston to New Caney.  I wouldn't dare rent a car if I were you. Wasting time and money.

Airfare has gotten crazy expensive! I've used expedia.com and travelosity.com as well as just booking through the airline's website. Sometimes you can luck into a reasonably good fare if you're flexible on dates & times. Check United's website for fares, that is if they fly to NC. Also, pack light if you can and use either a backpack or small carryon that you can manage yourself. Paying for checked bags is expensive and more of a hassle before you leave and when you arrive. Good luck and make sure to allow enough time for security checkins. Rental cars should be easy at your destination airport. 4951

@FoFa:  I'm like you...don't like to fly.  I did enough when I first moved here.  Security has gotten to be a PITA. 4951

@FoFa....We used Expedia to book our trip to St Lucia........You can check the rates for different airlines, car rentals, and hotels.........And my humble suggestion, if you're gonna Park N' Fly out of IAH,  use The Parking Spot (off of Will Clayton, right by that Jack N' tha Crack)........It was the least expensive one at less than $5 a day for uncovered parking.........And I think maybe $8 or $9 bucks for covered.........Allow yourself around 2 hours to get thru all of the so-called security TSA hassles and bull-malarkey..........And wear flip-flops, even though they'll make you take those off as well.....(Just bring some socks for the plane ride in case your tootsies gets chilly....)  .....Wishing you safe travels, my friend, to any from your destination.....  4951

Is first class worth it on a domestic flight? It seems to be about 3 times as much, but I hate flying so much. But I really need to since my mom doesn't have long, I need to rush and I haven't seen her since 2006 4951

@FoFa: Sorry to hear about your mom.  That would overcome my dislike of flying.  Go for 1st class if it makes you more comfortable.

@herron1345: you offer some good advice! And I always use that 'The Parking Spot'...never even tried the others cause it's always fast and easy. Last time I flew, I was surprised to see they didn't make us remove shoes. Maybe it's a random thing now?

My DH said flying into North Carolina is expensive. He said your best bet is to fly USAir or he offered to check how many airline points he has if you need. 4951
