I've been. Not sure if there is a best rental or not. We were drunk the whole time and couldn't have cared less. 4951

My guys usually launch from a place called The Horseshoe. They usually stay at one of the Fairfield or Courtyard Marriotts in New Braunfels. There is a river tubing launch from Gruene, TX (pronounced "Green") that is a great tiny antique, bed and breakfast, dance hall town with great stores and restaurants. At least check it out online. We've been there several times while in San Marcos and we love it.  While in Gruene, having lunch or dinner at The Gristmill is a must!! 4951

Last time I went tubing in New Braunfels, I was 21 and childless. Then I was pregnant with my first at 22. I don't remember where we launched (and that info would be way outdated), but I remember that there were several places at different spots along the river, and it depends on how many hours you want to be floating. I think we were out there all day. I had the worst sunburn of my life. The next day we took jet-skis out on Canyon Lake in Austin. So much fun!I would love to go again, but I'll have to wait for all the kids to get bigger.A few years later, I took a weekend trip to the Hill Country and stayed at a B&B. The best restaurant I found, at the time, was the Huisache Grill. 4951

There's a great rental place right in front of schlitterbahn. Do the longer ride it's worth it. Do not take a big cooler into the water! The rapids will toss it and you'll lose all your beer! 4951

Years ago we went every year. We stayed at these condos called River Run. They were kind of run down, but they were up river from most of the launch places.
We would have the whole fam damily staying in about 5 of the condos.
There was one year that we went and it was so trashy. Drunks and large women in bikinis needing to to take their tops off. These were not your typical 20 something college kids, I am talking 40 and over.
I think it has cleaned up a lot since then and it is much more family friendly. I would look into the River Run place. That was nice because you did not have to have someone to take you up the River to launch. 4951

@KTownTexican: Just got back from the FRIO river....  We had a great time, river was a little low only one tube run was really doable..... I had a buddy just get back from New Braunfels he said the horseshoe was SO crowded you could not even see a patch of water it was tube to tube...  Took him 6 hrs just to do the horseshoe.

I float the Guadalupe a lot. A few helpful hints. The higher up the river you put in the calmer the ride. That being said Lazy L&L is a perfect starting point and they rent tubes there. I am not sure if you are talking about camping also but they have great facilities there. Becareful putting in low if the river is running high because then you get into the white waters. I personally am not a dare devil and do not do the rough stuff,so I do not put in past the second crossing. I do not believe there are any worries about it running high, last I checked it was running so low  you could not flow without walking parts of it. A good ride is when it is running 300-500 cfs.(cubic feet per second),  Have fun!!!

The Rockin R is good. Corner Tubes (I think that's the name)there are so many places right along the river. They're all about the same price.Normally the New Braunfels floats are longer...but you can go to San Marcos and float there. The Lions Club rents tubes. I prefer to use one of the services because they will pick you up at the end of the float..instead of having to walk back.  4951
