Cyclists have just as much right to be on the road as a car.If motorcycle I stay as far away as possible.  Bicyclists i give as much room as possible and wait to go around.  Least both are saving tons more on gas prices then I am! 4951

Actually, I think anyone who rides their bikes on roads are nuts!  There are too many distracted drivers using their cellphones, etc.  I do think that bicyclist should not be on roads like Kingwood Drive, West Lake Houston Parkway, North Park. 4951

Distracted and speeding drivers have become a real problem here. There is no reason we should be having as many accidents or near accidents in the livable forest. Maybe we should start a petition on change.org for more police cruisers in Kingwood. Even I, being as cautious as I am, straighten up and pay better attention when I see a police car. 4951

Hmm, I see to many cyclists NOT obeying the rules of the road, they think stop signs and stop lights don't apply to them and they never hand signal. So yeah cyclists are idiots and should not be on the road if they can't follow the basic rules... 4951

@Mccrj: I am a cyclist and sadly I agree with you. I always follow the laws. There are like minded cyclists and we really are trying to get others to ride safely.
Having said that- I see more drivers ( while I'm driving and while I am cycling) that break the laws or driving while distracted than I do cyclists. I think the cyclists are just more obvious because drivers don't expect to see bicyclists on roads. By law we are allowed to ride on the road and are considered vehicles. Now common sense prevents me from riding on NP, WLH and Kingwood Dr- you really take your life in your hands doing that

@Jpgurl: Yes I know legally you can ride on the right side of the roadway, but why would you cycle in suburbia it's a death wish, between the teen drivers, soccer moms running late, people texting while driving etc. you really are taking your life in your hands. There is plenty of nice bike trails in Houston or stay on the sidewalks, greenbelts. I know my response is probably unpopular but who cares. I regularly pull a trailer and you just can't swerve 10,000 lbs. to avoid cyclists especially when they are riding in the center of the lane and not against the curb. Something funny to see is a cyclist trying to ride and text, yes I have seen this too, swerving all over the road you will be hit and possible killed. To the op does your room mate have a white light and a red reflector/ light of their bike?

This sounds like more of a pedestrian issue than a cyclist issue.  Way to many motorists do not understand that if they have a green light they have to yield to the crosswalk.  I would love to see cops set up and wave over anyone that does not yield to pedestrian traffic when they have the right of way.  I came very close to meeting my maker a couple times walking downtown for this same reason.  4951

@ForeCPA90: Pedestrian Right-of-Way if Control Signal PresentIf you are at a crosswalk with a Walk/Don't Walk sign or other control signal, you must obey the control signal. You can only cross when you have the Walk signal; otherwise, you must yield right of way to oncoming traffic.
Pedestrian Right-of-Way at CrosswalkIf you are crossing at a crosswalk but there is no control signal present, you as the pedestrian have the right of way if:You are on the half of the roadway in which the vehicle is travelingYou are so close to the middle of the road that a vehicle in the other lane must yield to prevent injury to you.The vehicle has enough space and time to yield the right of way to you - (This means that you cannot step out in front of a car that is too close to stop) If the car cannot stop, the car has the right of way and it is your duty to wait for a safe point to cross.Crossing at Points Other Than CrosswalksIf you are crossing the street at a point other than a crosswalk, you must yield right-of-way to vehicles in the roadway. If you are not crossing in a marked crosswalk, the oncoming traffic has the right of way. 4951
