I live in Fairway Forest Townhomes off of Hamblen. My Girlfriend and I have been growing giant sunflowers in the bulkhead next to us since February. They were 8-12 feet tall with huge flowers and were just days away from dropping tons of seeds. This morning someone cut the flowers off 10 of them and only left one smaller one. Growing them has been a source of joy for us and we were really looking forward to harvesting the seeds. Find it pretty sad that someone would do this but after seeing all the horrible things going on in Kingwood that get posted on here I am not surprised in the least. 4951

@kwdoughty:
Oh no! I am so sorry for youEmoticonI don't know what a "bulkhead" refers to, or anything about sunflowers, but was it obvious that they were yours and not just growing there?

@topcat:

There are large bulkheads built alongside our townhomes which contain a bunch of dirt and have been used for flowerbeds and such. This year we planted a full on garden with all sorts of veggies, plus the sunflowers. Below is one of the sunflowers for reference

Those large sunflowers are the ones that striped sun flower seeds come from, the ones you can buy to eat.The smaller multi-flowered sunflowers you see mostly in the wild I believe is where the black "oil" sunflower seeds come from that is in most bird seed.They are great plants to see as they do get rather large 8 feet is easy to reach typically.12 foot is a big one.The flowers are typically 12-18 inches, but can even get larger, and hold a large amount of seeds.usually getting to them before the birds is the problem. 4951

That sucks canal water. I've been nursing 2 that were hitchikers out of a bird feeder. Mine are not the mammoth ones, but they do bring a wealth of pleasure to me each morning when I get out of bed and see that another has opened up! So sorry. I echo @herron1345  sentiments.Jack wads!

I hate to say it, but I bet it was a bunch of teenagers out of school with nothing better to do than to destroy other peoples property. Follow the shells....maybe some fell out as they were carrying them off during the dead of night. Hmpffffff...this infuriates me. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 4951

@N+T:

There is no apartment manager and no reason to get permission. Several of the people in our townhomes took part in the garden and enjoyed it. Most people who helped with garden knew the seeds weren't ready so can't see any of them doing it. 4951
