I know South Padre is a popular place for vacation but I didn't want to go to a crowded tourist ridden place so I think we're gonna plan a North Padre trip. We plan on renting a beach condo and maybe do some fishing but mainly relaxing. Has anyone been there and if so can you give me some highlights? 4951

The ferry lines can get way long if you are heading to Port A.

We went to Port Aransas this year for an early vacation. It was great. We stayed in the SeaGull condos and I highly recommend them. I think we stayed in unit 101 which was ground floor so you don't have to wait on elevators, etc. It's also right next to the pool.  We will be going back to that condo next year. We really liked it. You can take the ferry which was fast but we were in the off season or drive all the way around corpus and up the island. We went to the candy shop there in Port Aransas which has a live rattlesnake in it (on purpose) but it has the best homemade caramel I've ever had in my life. It's also an easy drive to corpus for things such as the aquarium or to go see the battleship they have there. You can get a pass to drive on the beach so we loaded up my FIL's truck with all our beach stuff and he drove it to where we were right in front of the condo but it kept us from having to lug the umbrella and big chairs through the condo lobby and it was nice to just put it all in the back and the end of the day when you're tired. This year we spent a lot of our free time in Corpus but next year we're hoping to do more exploring in Port A. because it really is a great little town.  4951

Also if you want to fish and get away from it all, from Port Aransas you can take a ferry to St. Jo Island. It's a private island with no roads, running water, etc. You just take the ferry over and walk to find a stretch of beach and camp for the day.  We haven't been yet but it's on our to do list for next year. Apparently it's great for fishing and shell hunting.  4951

I lived in Corpus for a few years back in the early 2000's, and spent a lot of time at both SP and NP, NP is definitely more relaxed, more family type, with more site seeing/places to visit, SP is more of the party crowd with the clubs and ect (they do have prettier beaches), both are nice. 4951
