I got a lead on a car that's clean and runs great but has paint damage from tree sap.  I haven't gone to look at it yet. We are going to see it Friday evening. I'm trying to decide if the price they are asking (about 2000.00 less than comparable cars) is really a deal if I only need to get a paint job.  How much would a nice full paint job be for a Hyundai Sonata? Where to go?  Thanks! 4951

Most body shops don't like doing a complete respray it takes to much time, they would rather so crash repair faster and more profitable, unless its a "custom" shop then its will likely cost 5-6k $. Your best bet is to use Maaco, single stage paint will cost 500 or so, if you want base coat clear coat that will cost at least 1k. Maaco will do a good job if you do most of the work, like removing lights, mirrors otherwise its a mask, sand and paint. 4951

The problem may only be in the clear coat. Depending on how bad the clear coat is they may be able to buff it out. If needed you also could have the clear coat sanded and reapplied. Depending upon the age of the car, you may never recoup the expense of a complete paint job. When I was looking to have my Chevy Silverado painted a few years ago I got 3 estimates and they range from $2800 -$3500. Since I am very handy I painted it myself and I have about $900 in paint and supplies.  4951

My son just had his 1996 Dodge Ram full body repainted at McC Collision in Humble.  They did a FANTASTIC job!  The total cost (truck bed also) was $1500 with a 3 year warranty.  I'm sure a car would be considerably less.  Let me know if you would like for me to pm you before/after pics.McC CollisionSamuel Henandez (mgr)832-644-8558 4951

Idk what I'm going to do yet. It all depends on the condition of the car other than the paint. It sounds like I could get a nice paint job done and still come out ahead on this deal. Thanks, all! 4951

@topcat - is this car for your sons or for you? If it is for your sons, don't spend too much money fixing the exterior. In my experience with a new driver, fender benders happen and then you will have spent all that money in vain. 4951

@jls2: Its for me. They are going to drive my Honda CRV. I wanted them to have something a little bigger and safer to drive. Mine is a 2007 so it has it's share of dings already.
