Hi! I am moving to Houston and was told Kingwood was the friendliest area. How long is the commute to the IAH area, which is where my hubby would work? I would want to be zoned a to good elementary and can spend 350k or so. Also, I will be a stay at home mom--are there fun things to do in the kingwood area (coffee shops, parks, kid stuff, etc.)? 4951

I think that commute would be 20 min tops from the front of kingwood but if you live all the way in the back of kingwood it can add considerable time. 4951

Kingwood is perfect for you then - 15 minutes to IAH, great schools, houses in your price range (you'll get quite a bit for that price!). Parks are really nice and every 'hood has a community pool, from what I can tell. And at least 2x a month there seems to be something going on in Town Center or nearby for families. I've also heard the library offers stuff, too. We've only been here 10 months, but this is my quick and dirty overview of the area! 4951

I live in Kings Manor it is only 15 minutes to IAH for me.  I personally love living so close to 59...it makes my commute so much easier! 4951

Thanks everyone! Husband is ok with 30 min or so if it means good schools for the kids. I'm really excited to see the community. The recruiter recommended The Woodlands, but after reading about it, it sounds a bit flashy for me, and Kingwood sounded less pretentious. I'm looking forward to our house hunting trip!! 4951

@Thatmom:

Kingwood drive is lined with trees. Our realtor is from clear lake area and said her blood pressure drops when she comes up to kingwood. All you need to know is kingwood drive, north park and west lake houston. 4951

There are lots of people in KW who work for the airlines and commute to IAH.  There are lots of parks and there are trails to ride bikes or jog on. 4951

I love the idea of trees and trails. I'm coming from a small community in Utah, but I've moved around a good bit. I'll miss hiking in the mountains here, but the trails and woods there sound appealing. 4951

Welcome! I live in the front of KW, and can be there to pick up a passenger in 15 minutes. We love it here. Schools, home, people, etc.. have made the move all the more worth it.  Emoticon  4951

If you're from a small town, than the Woodlands probably would be to pretentious for you. Now, if you were coming from NYC or NJ, than it would probably be perfect. It is definitely more high-end on the shops; I can't speak for the residents, though. Emoticon 4951

@Thatmom: IMO, The Woodlands commute would BITE almost any time of day... With Exxon moving into that area, it's getting really difficult to find housing, too... Of course, it's a seller's market in Kingwood as well with some homes selling in days!!! Wish I had a spare house or two!!!!

It really sounds like a good fit. How did everyone choose their village? Or are they all kind of similar? 4951

Most subdivisions were built by different builders at different times so the housing styles and ages vary between subdivisions. 4951
