Just some things I see that if people knew could make their check out time a lot faster with a lot less hassle:1. If you have heavy things in your basket (watermelons, cases of sodas, etc) ask the cashier first if they want them on the belt before you pick it up. Chances are, they have a scan gun or the PLU code for those items so that you don't have to pick it up.2. Let your cashier know immediately if you have coupons and hand it to them, or put it in their line of vision. A lot of people like swiping their card before the order is done to cut back on time, but if you swipe your card and the cashier is in the process of finalizing your order and then figures out you have coupons, they essentially have to go back into the order to put them in and you end up having to begin the checking out process all over again. Just makes it easier for you.3. This one might be difficult, because stuff happens, but try your hardest to cut back on the items that you want to give back when you get to your check out lane, especially if they are produce/cold items. Sure, we're happy to take that frozen turkey from you that you decided you don't want (rather than you sticking it in a magazine rack) but any good cashier is going to turn around and hand that turkey to their bagger so they can go run it back from whence it came--temporarily leaving your lane without someone to bag your groceries. Sure, it's only for a couple of minutes, and yes, cashiers can check out and then bag when they're finished, but it makes your waiting time twice as long. Sometimes this can't be avoided, but people do get mad sometimes when they have to bag their own stuff.4. For those of you who like to use your own reusable bags, try to keep them organized and together and not in a confusing bundle when you hand them to the bagger. I get it, they may stay in your car in some remote corner and you don't think about them until it's time to go shopping again, but appreciate that bagging with those unwieldy things is HARD and even harder when they're in one big tangled mess. And while the checker is going one hundred miles an hour scanning your items, the bagger is struggling to fill up one bag: leaving you standing around and waiting a good five minutes after the cashier has handed you the receipt. Also, they do appreciate the people who do wash their bags on a regular basis. =D5. Some items around the store require the customer to weigh it and then slap the scan code on it which prints out from a machine. PLEASE know which items require you do to that so when you get up to the lane, you're not standing there waiting for someone to go back and scan and process the item's price for you. Cashiers don't have every item's code available to them at the register, and without the code or the piece of paper that prints out from the machine, we don't know what the item is or how much it costs. ALSO if the machine is not working, write down the item's PLU code on a piece of paper and hand it to the cashier.Just some tips to make life a little easier for you when you go shopping!! 4951

@nikkiole: great tips-sounds like it makes it easier for the cashier though EmoticonI absolutely hate waiting in line while stupid customers try to get the **** together.  It really irritates me too when they try to blame it on the cashier when they are the ones who don't know what they are doing.Do not even get me started on the self check lane.  I think you should have to pass a test and then be given a card to swipe before you can be allowed to use them.

@OkiedokieHow so? How is YOU not having to pick up the heavy stuff from your basket or YOU not having to wait in line more easier for the cashier? Hell, if I'm there for an eight hour shift, what's standing there looking at you for five more minutes? Or how is you having to not swipe your card again easier for me? I have to press one button to go back in the order: you gotta dig back into your purse, your wallet, and go through the 20 questions to get your receipt. And I? I just stand there and watch you. LOL Of course, sometimes it's beneficial for both sides. It doesn't have to be one or the other. And that's what I'm saying. It can be frustrating watching someone else try to get their stuff together (like having to wait around because someone didn't print in the scan code for their food and the bagger has to go get it) which is why I posted these. Like I said, it's not easier for ME. I have to stand there all day anyway, whether you have your stuff together or not. Doesn't bother me one bit.  4951

 @Okiedokie: This is what it sounds like to me too.

If I am at a store,spending $250-$300, I really, with all due respect, do not want them telling me the what to do and what not to do when I'm in line checking out and handing over my $$$. Yes, I want to get out and move on with my day, but this sounds a little self-serving to me. I don't call up my clients and tell them what they need or should do to make my job easier. I'm hired to do a job and they don't give a flip about making my job easier when they are paying my firm to do the job.

Actually, I can't think of any customer that would not take offense at hearing or reading this laundry list of demands of a business they are dealing with and giving their money to. I was a checker in high school and early college so I know how frustrating it can be, but everyone needs to remember that the job requires you to be of service, assist, help and serve your customer or in my case, my clients, otherwise, they go somewhere else and you and the business or firm are out of a job. 4951

Also, helping the cashier bag would be nice, if there is no bagger. However, the cashier AND bagger need to also learn to put the cold stuff in with like items, and it would be great if they didn't put my onions in with my bananas! 4951

Or do what I do: use the self checkout. If you want something done right, do it yourself Emoticon 4951

Wow. Some of you are touchy. These are just things I notice that I see that would help customers when they are really trying to get in and out of the store without all of the hang ups. I see customers get angry, frustrated, annoyed EVERYDAY over those things that I listed, when they are all very preventable. If you think you got your shopping experience down, great. But there's nothing wrong from hearing what someone on the inside has to say about little things that can actually make your life easier. As my mom always says, if it doesn't apply, let it fly. In other words, if you don't think it applies to you, move on. You can either read this like I'm some b**** trying to tell you what to do, or as someone who sees daily frustrations from people and wish I could have a huge megaphone to tell people how to make the process smoother. Because it CAN get frustrating.Y'all have a good one. 4951

@ctl74:
They don't come to my office and do my job for me, so unless I'm in a hurry or are supper picky, I shouldn't be expected to do theirs. We all have a job do to.

Also, any time I appreciate customers doing the actually bagging is when I'm in an express lane and they decided that despite the sign, they are going to load their 60 items on the belt. THAT'S when I would appreciate a little help. But other than that, I actually prefer if my customers don't bag. I know how to do it better than they do, and more bags are wasted when customers do it. Sometimes, I'll even tell my customers to not bag, or remove the bags from their reach so they can't bag. None of the things I listed really make my life easier at all. As I stated in a previous post, I'm there anywhere from 4-8 hours and I'm standing for just as long, on my feet. I'm picking up things, lifting heavy loads, walking around, assisting, doing my job. What does it really matter to me if an extra 10 minutes of standing in line are taken out of your day? I'm still going to be there whether you have a fast check out experience or not. I'm still getting paid, and unlike being a waitress, I'm not depending on happy customers and their tips to make my money. I'm getting paid the same every hour whether or not you get out of that line in 5 minutes or 15. These are things I see everyday that I know can help move along the process. This was my way of letting people know for the next time you go shopping little things that actually add up to mean a lot of time. FOR YOU. Not me. I'm not going home any earlier and my back is not aching any less if you pick up that watermelon and stand it on the belt. Why? Because I'm going to roll that watermelon down to my bagger and let THEM deal with it. So it's no benefit to me to tell you to keep it down there. Pick it up if you want to. Go ahead. But you don't have to. And why throw out your back if you don't need to?Ah, well, that's just me. Sure, it is your money and your time and you can do whatever the hell you want to with it. 4951

I help bag bc I want my stuff bagged a certain way. It really drives me nuts to see my frozen stuff put in the same bag as my bread! 4951

@BooBear: I usually do my shopping at midnight or a little after. By that time, there aren't many people in the store for me to get irritated with, and I can be in and out in no time. I think it's win win. lol

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but most everybody in the grocery store are in a way too big of hurry, I mean wth people, whether I get out of there at 7:15, or 7:18, or even, 7:20, not going to make A BIT OF DIFFERENCE on my day, and I'm pretty busy person as well. Way too much stress going on in there with people trying to rush to get in front of you in line, or coming up on the self serve and putting there stuff on there before you even pay with that "hurry up look" (just makes me go slower), mellow out people!!!!!!! 4951

Then they are likely **** all day or that is just their personality. The only things that **** me off at the grocery store are crappy customer service and being stuck behind someone who has been off all day, on the public dole, futzing around with welfare cards and multiple payment issues-WIC card then Lone Star Card then cash, then not enough cash, then put something back and try again. It always happens when I stop after being at work all day, I'm tired and all I want to do is go home. When I shop on the weekend, I still want to go but I'm not as **** about it. 4951
