Opened the door to her "game room," had a panic attack, closed the door and retreated downstairs.  I may try again next week. 4951

@Okiedokie:
do as I do,, when the kids are gone to their dad's... I give them a warning,, to clean their room,, put things away,, or else.as they leave for the summer,, I raid the room, with trash bags. Anything old or not in use, or looks like just trash,,, its gone. If the clothes don't fit, or not any good,, they are gone.  I don't care. I give them warnings all the time.,,,, every year, they return home mad because their room is clean. MY HOUSE,,, MY RULES 4951

My DD's bedroom looks like that. I know exactly the "panic attack" feeling you are talking about. Sometimes I think a bonfire is only solution! 4951

My kids are home-schooled and they don't visit their Dad. And they're too little for social media. I can't do anything behind their backs, but they tend to agree when I say they need to purge at least half of their toys so that they have more room to play. They just really  need my help getting started and keeping things moving. I'll find the energy someday.Good luck to you @Okiedokie! 4951

@MAHM: Mine is 8. Part of it is my fault, I never set up a system when we first moved in.  She is great about getting rid of clothes she has outgrown.  She doesn't mind giving up some toys too.  She also never goes to see her bio dad but I wouldn't throw anything out without her knowing.

@Okiedokie: Same here with not setting up a system. When we lived with their bio-dad, we moved so often that we got used to living out of boxes. I was really good at packing, but I think I forgot how to unpack. So eventually the kids tore into their boxes that had been tediously organized into sets. It didn't take long for the sets to get all mixed together again with no sense of order. My oldest DD has been helping them some this week, and they are getting excited about seeing things they forgot they had, so I'm hoping the treasure hunt will continue to motivate them.

@KTownTexican: My oldest DD loved that BB book! I think we left it in another state though. Thanks for the reminder. I will try to find a copy for the younger 2.

When my kids were little, they started to leave their stuff laying out in their room and in the game room.  I gave them one hour to pick everything up.  After an hour, I went upstairs and saw that they had done very little.  I sat them in the corner so they could watch me pick up everything that was still left out and trashed it.  It didn't matter how expensive it was, it got trashed.After that, if I told them to pick up their stuff, I didn't have to say it twice.  4951

We have 1 hurricane(4 year old), 1 "End of Days" type super typhoon(11 year old), and the 15 year old keeps her room so OCD clean, we're afraid she may become a serial killer someday.  4951
