I just can't figure out the mindset of people that work in Houston and are frequently late, blaming the traffic, as if it is beyond their control. I understand that teenagers working at McDonald's have lame excuses like that for chronic tardiness, but staff in a medical office? Including the doctor?!?

SURPRISE! HOUSTON HAS TRAFFIC. Why don't you try dragging your slow *** out of bed a little earlier and allow for the fact that it's not that flipping unusual that you'll have to make it through traffic to get to an office at 290/610.

When an employee comes in late, I ask them why and get some wonderful excuses!  4951

Including the doctor?!?

@mgw300e: It would always tick me off when I had the first appointment of the day and had to sit around and wait for the dr to show up.  If I was late, they would make me reschedule but the dr can be as late as he/she wants.

"sorry, traffic was a mutha."

An excuse as eloquent as it is stupid.

Guess what, I left Kingwood at 7 am so that traffic wouldn't make me late, so I know exactly how the traffic is. I got here at 8. The clinic opens at 8:30. The doc just got here at 9, which means that he'll be seeing patients now instead of being trained by me.

I hate when people think their excuses actually excuse them. 4951

I dont even ask. I just document and write them up when the time comes

@mm4731: I never ask. No matter what the answer is, it should be "because I don't like to be on time so I don't do anything to prevent being late."

One of the best excuses I got was, "I was in the bathroom popping my blackheads." I replied with "Really? This is the 3rd time you've been late. Lets go to the office." 4951

I always leave my early for work, usually around 6:45am.  I drive the speed limit or slower while the other idiots race around me on WLHP and the Beltway.  What I love is when the idiot drivers speed past me, then I pull up next to them at the next stop light.  4951

I had an employee that told me she was late because I didn't call and remind her she had to work...really? You're fired.

@mgw300e: Ok, that didn't make as much sense as I thought initially. You know what I mean.

And yes, I just @'d myself.

@mgw300e: I worked at 290/610 for a while..In there defense, although that may not have been the case this morning, it could take any where from 30 minutes to 2 hours a couple of times. But those are the rare occasions that you would have heard about.

Houston traffic is horrible,,, they have no design in the even of an emergency, All roads lead to the same area,,, the center.I used to drive downtown, and would have to leave 1 1/2 hours early to make it on time. Wasted a lot of gas, just stopped. I now drive to the airport, and for a 20 minute drive,, I get stuck behind people on northpark, get stopped atlights which never seem to change proplery, get stopped at every light possible,,, get behind people who dont know how to read signs especially at the airport. So I leave 45 minutes early just to have time to get to work on time.  4951

@BooBear: Yeah and it took me like two weeks to find another job.

I have zero tolerance for tardiness. Mgw300e is well aware of this! It rubbed off on boy #1 who leaves early for everything, but boy #2 has us waiting in the car a lot. He better turn his act around!
