At last nights Super Neighborhood Council Meeting residents of Kings Crossing apartments were outraged over the news that the complex was scheduled to be demolished and the land re-purposed as a commercial retail center. Councilmen Dave Martin and Stan Sarman tried to calm the enraged crowed, many of whom are disabled or on a fixed income with little opportunity to find other housing solutions. One Resident reported having lived in that location for 12 years. Others were concerned about preserving the duck ponds and natural landscape of the area. Martin and Sarman told residents they have no influence over the private business decision and said at this time the sale of the property has not been finalized. A representative from the development company purchasing the property was supposed to be on hand to answer questions and provide more information was a no show at the meeting. It was also confirmed at the meeting that accommodations to the residents will NOT be given. It is likely that once the deal is finalized residents will receive a 30 day notice to vacate. One minute you have a home and the next minute they are taking it away and you only have 30 days to find something else? Dear God. There are new apartments being built near Kingwood College just off of Northpark Drive. I think they are for Seniors/low income. 4951
This kind of thing happens all the time. 30 days, 90 days, or 120 days... even a year.... It wouldn't matter. There would still be plenty of stragglers complaining they weren't given adequate time to make arrangements. The potential new owner of the property is clearly the "rip the bandage off" type. It'll likely take a couple months to finalize the real estate deal anyway. 4951
@RSMCB: I agree you may be given 30 days to vacate, bu the writing is already on the wall - I would be looking to move... I did feel for them, but not really anything that can legally be done. 4951
