Anybody have success growing zucchini or summer squash? I have tried almost every year and usually the squash boring big kills my plants. This year I used aluminum foil along the stem and haven't had the boring bug issue but I have had issues with the cucumber beetle and now the zucchini are turning yellow and dying when they are still small. I just don't get it. It's suppose to be a proficient plant but I just haven't had any success with it.
I need help! 4951

I have no advice... Just had to post this because it was what popped into my head when I read your title.  ( I know, it's a stretch, but it's what popped in and I'm a giver)(2:31 is the part that popped in)

All of my zucchini have rotted off from all the rain. I usually have a problem with the squash borers too, but my plants were doing great this year until they got waterlogged. Cucumbers are doing okay.  4951

I had luck with starting them in a container, until they were about 2 feet long (the vines) then transplanted them to the permanent location. You are NOT suppose to do that, but I found in those types of vines (to include cucumbers) sometimes having the control of a container to get them past the initial vulnerable stages worked better. But you have to water the crap out of them when they start to get 4 or 5 sets of leaves. They suck it out of the container right away it seems.I used to use about an 8-10 inch container each. 4951
