I worked with Patient Access to get my new oral chemo started.  One month,  30 pills....Afinitor.....11,000Dollars.  Can you believe that???  I can not wrap my brain around this.  Medicare is paying for half and a assistance program will help me with the other.  How can such a medication cost so much.  I just knew it was a mistake.  I am on Medicare because of being on disability.I am thankful for being able to take this medication but I am almost scared of it.  Must be a powerful powerful drug.....Going to start it probably last part of the week.I feel so much better after the surgery.  Was without lights for almost 12 hours today  NO FUNP.S.  just to make sure you didn't think I made a mistake  $11,000.  This is at Walmart on Northpark. 4951

Big pharma sure does make a lot of money of cancer treatments. I honestly believe they don't want the cure released for monetary reasons.

Sorry about your condition. I hope you get better! 4951

I am so glad to hear you are feeling better after your surgery. The cost of your medicine is just absurd! I'm just glad you were able to get the cost covered so you can get it. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as always! Time to show cancer just how strong you are! Lots of love and hugs ma'am Emoticon 4951

@Ann2800: Supply and Demand, first rule of economics. It doesn't matter that the demand is because it will save your life.

@Ann2800, I'm so happy you are able to receive this medicine, and I hope it works wonders for you! Yes, the price of medicines can be quite ridiculous! The price of Crofab for venomous snake bites runs between $10,000-$12,000 a vial, and many patients need 10+ vials when treated for a bite. There is definitely something wrong with our system when medications needed to save lives are priced so outrageously. 4951

They say it's because research and clinical trials are expensive. So they price the drugs to recoup those costs. I'm wondering then why do they need to make those fancy commercials? If you need it, you need it. No need to make commercials for it, your doctor will know what to prescribe! 4951

As Chris Rock once said (paraphrasing), there's no money in the cure, the money is in the treatment.Best of luck, Ann! 4951

Some prescription prices are amazing.  At one time, doctors were thinking that my wife may have MS, so they prescribed a drug called Copaxone.  This drug, which has to be taken (injected) forever, costs over $5,000 per month. 4951
