So we have several family friends with kids graduating and I'm really torn as to how much to give them. We have been friends with all the families for many years but only see one on a regular basis. The kids are all graduating from the same school and know each other because their parents are all friends. I'd love to give more to the kid we see regularly but I'm afraid the kids may compare gifts at some point and I don't want any hurt feelings. Thoughts?

Also - what is the going amount? I'm sure it varies but I was thinking $50 each (and maybe $75 for the kid we know well).

Any thoughts are appreciated! 4951

@newcomer5:
I would go with the same amount for all. That way, there will be no worries that they would mention to each other the amount of your gift. I think 50 is fine.

Give whatever feels right to you.When I graduated high school, I got about 8 sets of Cross pen and pencils. I didn't even LIKE Cross pens and pencils.And, yes, there were ink pens when I graduated high school!  Emoticon 4951

Thanks. I'm thinking the same amount for all is indeed the best way to go.

One of them intends to use his grad money for spending money over the summer so he doesn't have to work. I was shocked to find out his dad is cool with that. Isn't graduation money supposed to go toward something for college? It burns me a little to even send him anything knowing it will just get blown on who knows what. I know monetary gifts can't be given with stipulations on use, but still... Maybe I'll get him a pen... Emoticon 4951

@topcat:  Not worth a damn! They blunted way too fast.  They DID work good on the clay tablets.  Emoticon

$50 is an acceptable amount, and give the same to all of them.  Don't get off in the weeds and worry about what they will spend the money on, ......, I'm sure the other kids will spend some of their grad money on summer fun and activities as well.  4951

I know I shouldn't even give a thought as to how they spend it, I'll get that out of my head. A gift is a gift. 4951

My son has a tight knit group of frineds and they have been friends since elementary school.  I gave them each 60.00.  But its not a competition whatever you feel comfortable with. 4951

My daughter got anywhere from $25-$200 from family. I think $50 is good. 4951

Give em a slap on the back and say: "Congratulations! You did what you're suppose to do".

If that doesn't feel good enough, hire a stripper for their party.

My first thought was $50 ea as well. If you really feel like being tough, give them a $50 gift card instead (Target would be good, so that they can use it on college or school stuff)! 4951
