Wish me luck I am going to volunteer from 10:00pm to 6:00am !!!!!!   Such a great event I find it SO surprising that only 50% of the  senior parents made a donation for this event -  That is really sad considering about 90% of the kids attend and it is a safe lock in environment...     Sorry I had to vent !!! 4951

I have a neighobor who was saying that the donation being asked was a lot, considering how much they have helped to fork out lately with college applications, prom, etc. - espcially if they donate their time and volunteer throughout the year. I've never heard of such a bid deal being made over graduation (I don't mean that in a snarky way - I think it's really nice all that is done for the Seniors) - it's just not something you saw happen up North! 4951

The volunteer slots that they have left are from 2 am to 6 am. I'm too old to stay up that late!I wonder - do they have a car to give away this year? 4951

@ctl74: My daughter graduated in 1996 & they had project graduation. It's been around up there for awhile.

NO car....   And they have been collecting since the beginning of the school year so it was not all at once at the end of the year with all the expenses....  I understand that money is tight.. it is extremely tight in my house but I had all year to come up with the funds and I LOVE the fact that my kid will not be running the streets after graduation.  MOST of the parents have spend WAAAAY more than that on Starbucks in one months time... lol 4951

I agree - we had all year to budget for it. If parents had the $$$$ to drop on prom, they could contribute to Project Grad. 4951

I'm surprised only 50% of the parents donated. I think it is a good event - the kids have some place safe to celebrate. 4951

I will be there as well from beginning to end - not sure what to expect, but I am actually looking forward to it!

And I was given the list of raffle prizes bought so far - the kids have some nice items to possibly win! 4951

@goldie: I'm not disagreeing that this is a great event - it's just foreign to me as we just celebrated in our backyard with friends! (And I'm a '92 HS grad.) Even where we just moved from, there is no such thing as Project Graduation!

I graduated from KHS in '05 and thoroughly enjoyed Project Graduation. It was awesome.

I dont find it surprising that 50% donated. Not everybody can... 4951

I'm planning on helping with fundraising throughout the year next year at kpark. I think it's a nice thing for the kids to have one last fun event with all of their friends before they head their separate ways. *tear* :'(

We had grad night in Florida.  I graduated in 91 and it was this huge thing at Disney World with all kinds of bands that were popular at the time.  All kinds of high schools all throughout FL were there all night!  So much fun!  I will remember that always.  4951
