What are you paying for electricity rates? We are paying 10.2. Looked at power to choose and that seems to be on the low end. Any suggestions? 4951

@mattem: I had no idea so I just checked my bill. It says the average we paid this month was 16.5 cents per kWh. It says: 433 kWh x $0.14786. I have txu energy price guarantee 12. My current charges are 77.09. I have a small one story house and a new ac unit so my charges stay low.
How many kWh do other kdcers use I wonder...

@mattem:  You need to look at your actual charges, not the publicized base rate.  You need to do like @topcat and divide your total bill by actual KWH used to get a clear picture. I am on a Reliant plan and paid an average of $0.12/KWH last year.  It's probably going to go up at least a penny/KWH this year because of those extra fees.  My base rate is $0.078/KWH.@topcat:  Before I renewed my contract last November, I looked at the previous years usage.  This is the data I had for that period.  We have a 3,000 sq ft, two story.  During most of that time, we had at least one kid living with us.

We have a 24 month deal with Direct Energy - about 10.5 cents per KWH. I keep signing long deals thinking that the nat gas price has to go up at some point....so fare it hasn't, much. 4951

read the in between print... the rates vary form 0-800 kwH   to 800-1300 kwH and 1300- up.the electric companies will sell you a deal on what is 800-1300. My house runs about 1100 however in the winter it gets down to 700. A good efficient home will be close to that 800 mark. so you might be at 10 cents at 0800-1300,, but it may jump to 13 below that. I would call and ask tons of questions and see what deals are out there. I have also learned next time call in from November - middle February, for the best rates. I waited till April and they PRO-rated me back to my last bill,,, which was February. so I got a higher bill, for the difference.  I was paying about 8.5 and ended getting 9.8,, 4951

The way to get the best rate is to go to Power to Choose dot org. Look at the rates they offer there. If you are happy with the company you are already using and you have been with them for a while, they should honor the "teaser" rates that are on the site. I have been with Reliant for over 20 years and I just continue to compare the rates and if they don't want to give me what is on the site, I'll mention other companies and their rates for me to switch over. They have always worked with me. Right now I pay .098/kwh. Good luck! 4951
