When did going to the prom become a constitutional right? It seems to me another one of these areas where our society has gone mad. Parents are filing suits or complaints against school district dress codes, guys are wanting to wear dresses at the prom, and girls want to bring their female lovers. Some parents feel obligated to spend thousands of dollars on the damn thing. I tell you we have gone insane. The prom used to be a glorified school dance. Now it has turned to Studio 57. Again my idea is to bring the prom back to the school gym. Dress code is jeans and a nice shirt. Good grief. www.cnn.com/2014/04/ 16/living/prom-dress -shopping-too-sexy-s kimpy-parents/i 4951

That whole dress issue, falls back on the parents. Ya she looks nice, but do you really want your daughter putting it out like that. As a HS kid,, I did,, but as a parent NOWAY. the girl violated the dress code, which is announced ahead of time. Sounds like big money mommy complaining 4951

@rocket: I read the girls blog yesterday. CNN in this case is taking things out of context from her original intention. Her original grevience is against Patriarchy, and the way she was unjustly treated as a female.

@Drekonix: I can appreciate that.  However my contention is the concept of the prom itself has gotten way out of hand.  People now are winding up in court over it, seriously?  Just like many other things in our lives nowadays, it has become a monster that has taken on a life of its own.

The same family who lets their high schooler wear a strapless mini dress on Sunday to church, surprise surprise, also let her wear a bear it all dress to prom and sprayed the pictures all over facebook.  They are nice people but I seriously question their judgment when it comes to their child's wardrobe.  YES, she is still a child until she's on her own, in college, making grown up decisions.  They need to be teaching her modesty instead of overindulging her poor fashion choices, or when she is on her own and in college, she will have MUCH bigger issues than fashion. 4951

actually the first example was: May 2014, a Richmond, Virginia,
teen attending a homeschool prom said she was kicked out because her
dress was too short. The teen said the dress was longer than her
fingertips, as required by the dress code. She was told that parents
complained her attire would lead boys at the dance "to think impure
thoughts," she said. The teen's blog post about the prom went viral.ohhh the boys might have impure thoughts? maybe these parents might try to teach their hormonal sons that they OWN those thoughts, not punish a woman or girl for them having those thoughts. reminds me of a fundamentalist who told me that women need to be punished for "making men have those thoughts". geezlouise. grow up and own it. if you get 'lustful thoughts and feelings', they are yours. or do boys and men get a pass cause they jest cain't control their johnson? 4951

@ProblemAgainI love how everyone blames the boys!  I am a mother of a son and I can tell you that some girls today dress very slutty and throw themselves at the boys.  Please stop blaming the boys!  The girls are just as bad.  I remember driving my son with his date to the movies.  The girl was the one kissing my son wildly while I was in the car.  I could not believe it!  I would have been embarrassed to do that with my parents/boy's parents in the car.  Not all girls are innocent.  I am so glad this girls is out of the picture! 4951

face it...a teenage boy can have impure thoughts about nuns, the sasquatch and the that bundt cake on the counter. it's way past time to teach them to own it and control it. and if the girl kissing your son bothered you, say something 4951

Teenagers, in general, have impure thoughts.  The girls do or they wouldn't dress to intice the boys.  The boys do because, they're immature developing hormonal boys.  Both are equally to blame, both shamelessly flirt with each other, and both should learn self control.  4951

The stupidity of the whole prom thing has also affected middle school.  When my kids were in middle school and there was a party at school, some parents were renting limos, renting tuxs/ suits, and the girls parents were buying expensive dresses.  It's ridiculous for high school, but insane for middle school. 4951
