I get as tired as everyone else with awareness for one thing or another happening every month but this one hits home for us.  DS has Tourette's and has hit puberty...where it is most active.  He has some tough sledding ahead of him but so far he's handling it like a stallion. If the only education you've received on Tourette's is from the incredibly offensive and totally inaccurate Saturday Night Live skit...trying teasing a minority like that...then I implore you to exercise your google muscles and spend a couple of minutes understanding what these people are really dealing with. Primarily that a very small (estimates range from 2-15%) of all Tourette sufferers also suffer from Coprolalia.  It is Coprolalia, not Tourette's, that makes them curse. 4951

Tell your son to think like a musician.  EGBDF - every good boy does fine.  He'll do fine. 4951

A dear old friend of mine has tourette's and boy could I tell you some stories.  He's one of the all-time great people in this world, I promise you that. I hope my daughters marry as good a man as he is. They would have hit the jackpot. He was a rookie teacher my 4th year teaching and my ex-wife and I use to feed him on a regular basis and befriended with the guy.  He was sooo scared and green it was comical at times, but we were there once, too, and helped him through a lot of things. We introduced him to his would-be wife and he eventually moved.  He's divorced now and living up in the North Texas region with his 3 children. Crazy days at the school...CRAZY! 4951

@fcabanski: He actually is a musician.  I taught him piano when he was in elementary and he's played cello the last two years at CMS.  Next year he's going to play the cello and violin.  He also has a set of drums.  Although playing any of them help his ticks, when he's ticking really bad the drums help him move past it.
