Friday afternoon I said goodbye to my beloved Mufassa.  I have a photo of him and I on the couch before I left...  It is the only "selfie" I have ever taken.  I was crying and Mufassa has a tear in his eye as well.  I took him to Dr Kelly at Kings Crossing.  He was very comforting and tried to convince me that I had done everything I could for Mufassa.  Anyway, I am at work and I don't want to start the water works again - IF there is anything left.  But Mufasssa and I sat on the floor -him across my lap - all 90lbs.  And he went to sleep.  It was the hardest thing I have ever done.  Thank god my son showed up so I was not alone.  I hope he is in a better place and I pray that I will see him again.  My other two dogs are LOST.  I think Mufassa's mom Crystal knows exactly what happend - but she still seems sad...  we comforted each other... Little Molly has no clue what happened she just misses him.  Anyway back to work before I lose it again....Thanks to all of you for asking for updates and helping me through this ....  4951

I am so sorry for your loss.  I had to do the same thing in February for our Cleo and it was one of the most difficult things I've ever done.  Sending cyber-hugs your way.  4951

This will probably make you cry again, but I hope you find some comfort in this. Rainbow
Bridge

Just this side of heaven is
a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that
pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can
run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as
we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each
miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops
and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body
quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green
grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy
kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and
you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from
your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry for you and your family.  The hardest part of being a pet owner is knowing when it is time to let them go and not suffer anymore.  That is the one thing that as their humans we owe them, as hard as it is, you did the right thing.  You loved him enough to not let him suffer.  Prayers to you and yours. 4951

It sucks. It's not fair. But you know Mufassa is up there running and playing and in no more pain. You did the right and selfless thing. 4951

@GoldenGirlSo So Sorry, G.G...........You have my sincere, deepest, heartfelt sympathy.........Sending you a warm, comforting embrace.....Let my name be ever the household word that it always was
Let it be spoken without effort
Without the ghost of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever was
There is absolute unbroken continuity
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you for an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner
All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again! 4951

The vet is doing a print of his paw... I am going to do something really special for him out in the yard...  And I think in July when we go to the Frio River (His favorite place) I may scatter some of his ashes.  Thanks for all the kind words and thoughts...   Most of the time I hold it togther but I lost it this morning when I went to feed my other two and saw his empty bowl....  also he was my couch buddy he would sit on my lap when I watched tv or lay next to me....  There is a huge VOID for sure...  It will take  a while but at some point I will adopt some poor fellow and let him fill the void in my heart and I will fill his as well....   After time has healed me. 4951

@GoldenGirl: I'm really sorry you had to go through this, it is one of the hardest things an animal lover will ever have to do. I'm dreading having to do the same thing and I know it's coming somewhat soon.

My heart just breaks for the pain you are experiencing. I have a 14 year old Maltese whose time is coming and I broke down at my job yesterday realizing this. I do commend you for saying that you will eventually take in another dog to help and I personally can't think of a bigger honor to do to honor your Mufassa. God Bless your beautiful loving heart❤❤❤❤ 4951

I'm so sorry you are going through this.  We have had to say goodbye to several friends over the years, but I take comfort in the fact that they are not in pain anymore and I like to think that I will see them again someday, happy and healthy. 4951
