US spending is coming home to roostThere was a time not long ago when a Russian president would think hard before encroaching on the rights and freedoms of sovereign nations, as he could be sure that a swift and decisive U.S. and international response would soon follow. In fiscal year 2013, we borrowed 46 cents of every dollar we spent, and we flooded our system with money through the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing strategy — features borrowing from the future to meet our lifestyle demand of today.Imagine increasing the mortgage on your house by 46 cents every time you spent a dollar. Doing so would make your bank's position over you stronger, while making you more beholden to your bank. The same holds true with foreign creditors.By borrowing at this rate, we incrementally cede our sovereignty and economic standing in the world. We give away our country in small pieces every day to satisfy our spending addiction, and, ironically, while our leaders are quick to express outrage and concern over Russia's bullying and encroachment on its neighbors, the same leaders stand by and do little as we willfully acquiesce to a soft economic invasion by China, Japan, Singapore, and our creditors who line up to buy our debt.ar=yahoo&doc=101630333%7CWhy%20the%20US%20is%20losing%20leve" target=_blank rel="nofollow">LINK 4951

Obama's economic sanctions are meaningless.  The US only provides about 10% of Russia's imports.  Anything we import from Russia can easily be sold to other countries. Putin seems to understand America's position better than Obama.  Obama's  Foreign Relations only projects weakness. 4951

you cant sanction countries anymore,, there is always someone who buys it and then sells it later to another country who then sells it the sanctioned country.... that's how Saddam did it in Iraq, bought from other countries... money talks 4951

@FoFa: Well I guess Putin felt invincible in 2008 as well when he ordered the invasion of Georgia.

@rocket: If I recall, Georgia was not an innocent player in that whole thing.
So my bet is the world said go ahead.I don't recall Ukraine pulling terrorist attacks the such.Just a slight difference in my mind.BUT then again, that was a CNN story, not mine, just to point that out. 4951

@FoFa: I understand.  I just think Putin is something of a madman who thinks he can bring back the Soviet empire.  Perhaps the U.S. response doesn't have much weight because of our economic position.  However other members of the NATO Alliance are also wary of sanctions because inevitably it will cause their own economies to suffer.  We know live in such a global society that industrialized countries are reliant upon each other.  And when one sneezes many others catch cold.  So in regards to Putin sanctions no matter how pitiful is the only hammer in the drawer.  To do anything else is unthinkable as the outcome is too nightmarish to consider.
