@calliecat disappeared!

@topcat: Right?! This message board is weird. You can talk about sex all you want, but bring up college and you get banned instantly.

I have no idea of what the choices are, but how nice to have choices! Congratulations!  If most factors are equal, I would consider the college that is the most economical.  Consider transportation costs to and from home, as well as tuition.  I have had three children graduate from college, one has a master's, one has two undergraduate degrees, and a third is in grad. school.  Sooner or later, the student loans have to be paid.  I suggest that you will be glad you saved on the "undergraduate" portion of your higher education experience. 4951

I am sorry I did not finish.  I got a phone call as I was writing this.Dh was so adamant about Baylor and then comes home late Sunday from a Choir performance in Dallas on Sunday to say he wants to go to Texas Christian University.  I think some friends talked to him about Baylor and discouraged him.  Ds is Catholic and I am not sure if Baylor being Baptist will be a problem for him.  He now mentions the town of Waco not being as nice.I  had to call the doctor's office to ask the doctor to fill out health forms for TCU.  Last week the doctor had just filled out the one for Baylor.  Each college you have to submit their own health forms.  So today I am waiting for a call from the doctor's office to pick up the health form in case he decides there.  Technically, we really only have today to decide because one school said it takes 24 hours for things to go through Admissions before you can sign up for housing, etc. Ds did get scholarship money to Baylor.   TCU is more expensive but I rather ds be happy at whatever cost.  We had been saving for years.  Yes, Baylor's scholarship money would be nice to have but I am not counting on it because you never know how kids do when they go off to college.  If he does well, a bonus for us!Anyone have opinions about each school? 4951

both are really good schools.  Can't go wrong at either place.  Waco has less to do; sometime that can be a good thing.  Neither school will have a problem with being Catholic.  The days of sizeable schools like Baylor or TCU worrying about drinking and dancing are over.  They may still thump a bible from time to time, but it's not like it was back in the day.  4951

I don't know about the colleges here and luckily I have many years before my DD goes.  She is only in 3rd right now.

I did find a notebook when I was cleaning out her backpack last night and it said:

Things to do to get ready for college:
1.  Get a job at Petco
2.  Find an apartment next to a friend
3.  Fill out an application to Sam Houston

Hopefully this help! :o) 4951

I knew several Catholics that attended Baylor.   They had no issues in that regard.  I know nothing about Waco, however. 4951

@calliecat I would go to whichever one was considered better for my major. Idk if that matters these days, but it's an idea. 4951

@topcat: And, along that note, which school has the best networking / alum groups for networking / career services. Getting a job is all about who you know or what you have in common with the person doing the hiring.

I know Baylor and TCU both have very good business schools.  Networking I am not so sure.  My dh thinks Baylor has the best.  I liked TCU's.  So we are split.  Anyone else know which is better for networking? 4951

I don't . Waco is an old town with not a whole lot to do but entertainment isn't far away.

My grandfather built the first neighborhood there, he is listed in who's who and my grandparents bought the first color tv sold in waco. Everyone but a cousin and me on my mom's side were born there.

Not helpful at all, sorryEmoticon

@BooBear That is pretty cool about your grandfather.  It must be nice to go back there and see his buildings still there.  What a legacy! 4951
