Does anybody have it, and if so, would you say it's worth it? We're going through a lot with our dog, and it's costing us a pretty penny. Was thinking of getting the pet insurance, but I'm not too sure if that's really the better deal or not. 4951

I think if the issues you're dealing with are going to be life long for the dog, it would be worth doing some research into. But make sure everything will be covered and not considered pre existing. 4951

That's kinda what I was thinking. I am hoping it's not a life long thing though. Then again, I didn't expect it to be taking as long as it has either. 4951

Lonestar vet has different care packages you can chose from with monthly fees. You may want to look into that. 4951

@topcat:
Thanks. I'll have to look into that if this continues on much longer. First vet bill was probably about 1500, and we've spent about 100 a visit after that with weekly visits. I'm gonna have to get back on the corner if this keeps up! Lol

I was looking into it. A friend told me that he saved tons of money by having it.I called my vet,, Porter Animal Hospital,, and they said they don't accept pet insurance. Based on their prices, it was cheaper for me to go to them, without insurance, than go to a local vet with insurance. So I opted out.You need to call your vet, and ask their advice. See if they accept or have issues with certain companies. I never thought I would have to consider this, but with the running cost of a vet,, its crazy. 4951

I didn't even think about clinics not accepting the insurance. Thanks for the heads up. It's still a new concept for me, so there is a lot I don't know about. 4951

@bp2018, what vet are you using?

@Fallon:
Our normal vet is the Aldine Animal Hospital. Since it's hi eyes that we're having problems with, we have to see a specialist. We use North Houston Veterinary Specialist in Spring for that. 4951

I had pet insurance on our dog shortly after we got him (as a puppy). The insurance was offered through my company and I got the "high end" package for around $30 a month.  Pet insurance will not cover pre-existing conditions. In most cases, it will also not cover anything that is breed-specific (like hip dysplasia in german sheperds). It will also not cover routine visits. The lists are long, so just price compare. And yes, I agree with asking your vet about the programs they take / offer, to see what your best bet would be. We got the insurance bc, with a large breed, I knew vet bills would kill us if something were to happen to him. When we applied for the insurance, he had never been to a vet - I just provided all shot records from the clinics we went to. They accepted us with no issue. Good luck! 4951

@bp2018: DON"T DO IT!! My dh did it for his cat. We went in a year later and ended up with just as high of a bill as we would have wo paying the monthly payment

My company offers it as part of our benefits package. It's not a freebie, but it is very affordable, so I haveco considered it. 4951
