I finally admitted to myself that I needed help and got treatment for PTSD and depression.  I am now doing MUCH better, but you are never "healed".  I now know when I am slipping and I know how to pull myself out of dark moods. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: Tell me about it.  I think the only thing that will help is distance from the cause of the PTSD.

Probably having to tell my dad that it was okay for him to let go, that my mom and I would be okay, we just didn't want him to suffer anymore and be in pain. He had brain cancer and was pretty much gone except for very few moments of clarity (although he always recognized me), and doctors couldn't do anything. He literally died probably 20 times, but kept bringing himself back to life because he didn't want to leave my mom and I alone (I was only 11). Once we told him that, he smiled and said he would always love us and watch over us, then took his last breath. 4951

@bp2018: I'm sorry.and sorry that this brought that kind of pain up.  But wow, the love that man must have had for you and your mom....

@Odin:
It's okay. I've come to terms with it all a long time ago. It still hurts from time to time, but I tend to focus on the memories we created before he passed, and that helps Emoticon I don't mind telling the story, because I look at it as a story of love. 4951

@Odin:
Let's just say I don't exactly have the best relationship with most of my family, and I can completely relate.

If you ever need someone to talk to or vent at, I'm just a PM away. Promise not to judge. I know just talking to people helps sometimes.

Or plot revenge with. I'm really good at that too. Emoticon

I have had to endure a couple of difficult things with my kids and in life in general but probably the hardest thing I have had to do is give birth to our stillborn son. To go through labor and delivery and to hold your baby in your arms knowing it will be the first and last time you will do it, is horrible. And to leave the hospital with empty arms... I really thought it was going to kill me. 4951

SERE training, Fort Rucker, Alabama, 1987.  21 days in hell.  I still have nightmares about the last 5 days and since that portion is classified, neither myself or anyone else who has been through it can talk about it.  My ex-wife would tell stories about how it changed me.  None of them were good. 4951
