I have to have one on Friday...I have GERD and they need to look at my throat from within. The only thing that I'm freaked out about is being put under. I get so sick from anesthesia. 4951

It's a real pain in the ***.Oh, wait, other end.  Have had one of these as well.  They often use a "memory" type drug instead of full anesthesia. 4951

@Ally:

Hope all goes well with the anesthesia. I had one a few months ago. Everything went well except for the fact my arm where the IV was felt like it was submerged in ice water all day. That and I was talking in my sleep. Talk about embarrassing! Lol. Is it all types of anesthesia that makes you sick, or just certain brands? 4951

@bp2018: I think all brands...I can never remember a time I didn't get sick even when they said they were gonna give me anti nausea. The worst surgery was when I got my tonsils out as an adult. I threw up in recovery and I can't tell you how much that burned!

@Ally: Make sure to talk to the anesthesiologist before to discuss options.I actually tried to get out of the memory drug because it is also like a truth serum.  One moment you are unaware that you are awake, the next moment you realize you are in the midst of telling the nurse your most intimate secrets.(she blushed)

@bp2018: yeah they probably nicked a nerve when they inserted the IV- I've had that happen not fun- my hand from wrist to finger tips was numb for one surgery

@ Ally- just tell them you get sick- it may be a blood pressure issue. I used to get sick with anestha ( not the taught sleep drugs tho) and they give me something in the IV to stop me from being sick- good luck! Glad you are getting the test. Dh has acid reflex and Barrett's Esophagus. The neighbor had Barrett's and then ended up dying from esophageal cancer. Dh's acid reflux is much better and the Barrett's is almost gone

@Jpgurl: He died??? That's not good. Was his Barrett's so far along they couldn't help him? Apparantly so...God, I'm so nervous! I have no bp issues and will be mentioning my aversion to anesthesia.

@Ally: I have naturally low bp.  I remember for my last endoscope, we waited with me on the table until my blood pressure rose.  I'm allergic to morphine and most anesthesia. I did not have any issue with the med used in and endoscope(or colonoscopy).  Just be upfront with the drs...and ask for Zofran, lots and lots of Zofran.

I used to vomit every time whenever I had an endoscopy or colonoscopy. Believe me I have had plenty if those procedures! It was when the used Demerol and Valium. Ask for the Propofol instead. Much better. You can also ask for Zofran to prevent nausea. I also have Barrett's Esophagus. 4951

@calliecat: I'll have to remember the Zofran and Propofol...but one question will I turn into Michael Jackson??? LOLSeriously, how is your Barrett's... do you just have to get regular screenings and is there a cure?
