Guys I don't think that the banning knives mocking helps. This is a tragic situation. I don't support any kind of gun control but let's be honest had it been a firearm we might not have 20 injured but many dead. I still believe in the right of law abiding citizens to bear arms. My issue is still with people with mental health issues having access to any weapons, including knives. I don't have the answer on how to tackle this, becasue as tragic as this is, the government should not have the power to determine who can and who can't own guns. But clearly something is wrong with ou society. Prayers for all affected.  4951

@notfromhere:  Yes, it IS a tragic situation, but you know that if this had been a shooting the media and anti-gun people would be all over it using it as another attack on firearms.Mass murders happen all over the world, most of them without guns (Google it).I  agree that something needs to be done about mental health, but I do NOT want our government to make arbitrary decisions on this!  They always go with the simplistic approach and just throw OUR  money at it.

This hits very close to home for me as my good friend's daughter just graduated from this high school last June and has friends who are still in the high school. I checked in with the daughter already to make sure her friends are all ok, as is she of course, and it seems that they are, thankfully. However, there are 4 students who are either in, or going into, surgery for life-threatening injuries. So many prayers and hope that things will change with the state of mental health in this country. I have to wonder if there were signs that this child was unstable. Emoticon 4951

I sure hope that Sheila Jackson Lee proposes a "Knife Free Zone" policy in Texas schools and the Gov't places strict measures in place for "Knife Control" in all states.   Knives are dangerous especially the "Assault Knives" such as a K-Bar used in the Military.  LOL. 4951

" I don't support any kind of gun control but let's be honest had it been a firearm we might not have 20 injured but many dead. "Wrong.  Let's be honest.  If one of the good guys had been packing a pistol, this would have resulted in a lot fewer injured innocents.  4951

@fcabanski: two different things. I never suggested a good guy with a gun was bad. But tunnel vision won't help anything. Guns do more damage than knives in the wrong hands. The fact of the matter is that unfortunately a good guy with a gun wasn't there. If the suapect had one things would have been a lot worse.

If you read the article you would have seen that he had TWO knives and went on a stabbing massacre. Maybe the solution is more simple to limit the number of knives people can own.And maybe if a teacher had been allowed to carry a bigger knife, not so many would have been hurt.Maybe if they required them to remove their shoes when they enter the school, it would prevent this kind of thing. Also there should be a waiting period to buy a knife complete with background checks. 4951

"Guns do more damage than knives in the wrong hands."When you ban guns, the only people with guns are the people disobeying the laws.  That's the bad guys.Tunnel vision to the solution is good and proper.  It takes tunnel vision to bore through the "guns cause trouble" crowd. 4951
