This is a question that I'd usually ask my soon to be mother in law, but I'm just not feeling that (or her) so I'd rather ask y'all on the interwebz. Ok, I had this boo boo from where the underwire of my bra came out & poked my side/ under arm area. It eventually scabbed but seemed to have gotten irritated & a little infected. Well I treated it with peroxide & neosporine & it was getting better. It's on my bra line though so this past weekend as I did that I was at home almost all weekend & either didn't wear a bra or I wore a loose, comfy sports bra. Well Monday meant back to work so I put one of those big rectangular bandaids on it, but when I peeled the band aid off at the end of the day, it took quite a bit of my skin with it! I don't mean a little bit, I mean it took deep chunks of a significant amount of skin that left me bleeding worse than the initial boo boo. So now I've got this missing skin from peeling off a bandaid on top of the underwire boo boo, but I'm also afraid to put a band aid on this new boo boo because I don't want to lose more skin. I've got to wear a real bra to work though, I can't free boob it. What are suggestions. Also, should I let the boo boos breathe while I sleep or keep them covered at all times? Thanks. 4951

I don't know but whatever you do watch it closely for infection. Staph LOVES those nice warm moist places and will set in QUICK! You don't want to have to tell that story. 4951

If all the skin around it is red and inflamed and hot you should have it looked at. I don't have the blessing of your size beasts so not sure if leaving them free would be better or worse but either do or don't Google images of staph on boobs..at your own risk. . 4951

Hmmm.. Yes let the boo boo breath while u sleep! Isn't that the cardinal rule with owies (didn't wanna say boo boo b/c it would be repititve).

1) Is your work gonna know the diff between a sports bra and a regular bra.

2) What about the invisible bandaids?

3) If your work requires you to wear a bra, then so be it (but improvise)! Women rule, men drool (not me).

Hope this helps sweety! 4951

I appreciate the warning but holy ****** hell, mine looks NOTHING like anything google images just showed me. I won't be sleeping tonight, thanks. It was just a little underwire poke that I'd scratched at so it was a little pink around it. Not red, inflamed, or hot to the touch. Now the skin that the bandaid ripped off is what I'm not sure how to care for. I'm scared to bandage it again for fear of ripping more skin off, but if I leave it uncovered my bra will rub it!! I envy tribal Africans right about now. I'm thinking gauze pads & medical tape though. 4951

@heathur those were advanced infections..it all starts somewhere. I would think gauze with neosporine would be a good idea. 4951

@Heathur:

She is correct, staph loves warm, moist environments. Keep it clean and somewhat dry. I suggest covering with gauze or pad.

You apparently had a super stick bandaid and it really stuck good. I have a patient right now that has fragile skin like that.

Do you have any Telfa pads, also called non stick pads? And some hypo allergenic cloth tape? Can you go get some? Maybe in the morning get some on the way to work. Put the neosporin on, cover with non stick pad, secure with the soft tape.

When you get home, wet the tape and gently pull it off using the other hand to press against the skin under the tape to brace and prevent skin tearing.

Don't use hydrogen peroxide, just use soap and water, pat dry. Or, mix up a solution of mild salt water (you could buy some saline water at the pharmacy, but making it yourself is cheaper) and rinse with that, pad dry, then bandage.

Please see an md if it doesn't improve in a couple of days. 4951

@Heathur: NO hydrogen peroxide. Bad Heathur! Hp damages healthy tissue around the wound. Wash gently with mild soap and rinse well. For work, use neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment if you have it on the original boob boo boo and the band aid boo boo. Cover with a non stick tefla dressing held on by paper first aid tape. Change it during the day and before bed. Give it about 4-7 days. You will have a bit of a scar but it will fade. Yes, this exact thing happened to me!

This may sound weird, but one of the soft cottony panty liners works well! Cut it and stick it to the area of your bra that rubs on the boo boo. 4951

@attila:

I use those for any majorish wound I have. They're sterile and made for absorbing blood so it works like a charm. Actually had a doctor recommend them. They also work great as tattoo covers when they're healing lol.

@Heathur
Use triple antibiotic ointment. The peroxide can just do more damage as it eats away some of the tissue. 4951

@bp2018, they don't stick to the wound like regular gauze, and they don't absorb all of the ointment so it stays on the wound. I had an underwire break and actually stab me under my left breast. The panty liner worked like a charm! 4951
