Hubby and I ate there tonight. They still don't have their liquor license. Such is the beaurocracy of the city of Houston. They offer much fried food; very good flavor to the food. I ordered the fried shrimp platter and got eight tiny fried shrimp atop of a mound of French fries. Flavor was good but not enough (still hungary). Hubby had the cat fish platter. Two thin catfish on a mound of French fries. He also ordered the bisque and it was delicious. The manager came over to get our opinion and I addressed the issue of not enough shrimp or fish. Will give this place awhile to "get going". We were the only ones there for awhile. Really stupid to start out with skimpy servings over "tons of French fries". Hope they succeed but they have to realize KW people expect a good meal for the money. Our meal was $43.00 plus tip. 4951

How big were the shrimp. Eight are generally enough for me if they are a decent size. 4951

We just returned from Lucille's and found it to be very good.  I ordered the catfish platter and hubby ordered the shrimp dinner.  I substituted the gumbo for the soup of the day and DH substituted the corn & shrimp bisque....both was very good, but I think my gumbo is much better, so next time I'll get the bisque too. My catfish platter had 4 nice sized pieces of catfish, cooked very tender, not over cooked. The batter was light with a little spice...very good.   Hubby's 8 shrimp were medium size, nicely battered and perfectly cooked. Nothing worse than over cooked shrimp or fish.  The fries -- yes, there was a huge mound of them -- beer battered and delicious.  I had so much food I brought 2 pieces of fish and 1/2 the fries home for our daughter.   We were too full to have dessert - but hubby was tempted with the bread pudding. He's a tartar sauce person and I'm a cocktail sauce, so we got both.  He liked the tartar sauce, I didn't like the cocktail sauce...too vinegary and no substance.  I would rate it a 3 out of 5.  Price?  It was no worse than other fish places we visit.  15.00 for a shrimp platter or fish platter with choice of salad or cup of soup - not bad. It was $1.00 extra for the subs on the gumbo or bisque.  We get water, so no charge on that. $33.00 plus tip - about what we usually spend for a nice meal.  Service was excellent, server was extremely attentive - his name was Dakota.  Decor was sparse, but tasteful, music was background only, not loud and intrusive.  Will we go back - absolutely.  Sadly, at 6:30 pm there were very few people in the restaurant.  I do believe that location is jinxed. I doubt anything, no matter how good it is, will make it in that location. But hubby and I will go back again - I loved everything but the cocktail sauce and the gumbo, but hubby liked the gumbo, so it was just my taste buds that didn't like it. 4951

@TexasOma:
$15 a plate for shrimp for catfish is about what Pappa's seafood charges, plus the portions ARE huge there, the food at Pappa's is phenomenal, & the service is great. It's going to be hard for Lucille's to compete with their medium sized portions & prices like that when Pappa's & Red Lobster are right up the road with the similar prices & huge delicious portions, especially since those 2 are already well established restaurants. Thanks for the review though!!! Emoticon 4951

When we order a shrimp platter at Pappas it's more like 17.00 and yes, the platters are huge, but mostly fries (or onion rings if you sub). That is for 9 medium shrimp.  If you want more then it's a couple dollars more.  Hubby and I split a shrimp platter and baked potato when we go to Pappas.  We eat at Kuntry Katfish up in Conroe and the $15.00 is about what they charge for their shrimp platter, but it's Cisco shrimp. Their catfish platter is $12.00 but they seem to overcook the catfish lately.  Oh but I love, love, love their coldslaw, green tomatoes and hush puppies.  But you get 4 thin overcooked pieces of fish.  Best buy for a catfish platter is this place up east of Cleveland - Ranch Hand.  $10 bucks and you get 4 large pieces of fish.  I love Ranch Hand but it's such a long drive.  :-( 4951

Every once in a while we'll wander down to Monument Inn - right by the San Jacinto Monument and the Lynchberg Ferry. They have a pan fried shrimp that is to die for. Fresh shrimp that are huge and have some sort of breading that's simple but delicious. I can't remember how many there are. I know I can never finish them and bring them home - and that's without eating the fries!! Those puppies are big.
We might try Lucille's but we'll have to be super careful- looks like a lot of items have shell fish or are made with a shellfish broth- dh is highly allergic. 4951

JPGurl, pretty much everything was shellfish related and if not it would be cooked in the same area that shellfish was prepared.

Our friend in Montgomery is so allergic she has to ask if fries are cooked in the same oil, server has to go check and most often the answer is yes so she had to get something else. She can eat freshwater fish but not if it's cooked with shellfish. 4951

@TexasOma: yep same here! Dh had an allergy attack ( not a full blown epi pen on thank goodness) when a customer are a plate of crawfish at lunch. I can usually get away with eating shrimp when I'm with him but usually don't unless we're at Monument Inn. And man it's so hard not to eat fresh shrimp and crawfish since we moved here. Oh well maybe I'll go to Lucille's when he's out of town. Not a fan of catfish but that lobster bisque sounds good!!

@Jpgurl: It was a corn & crab bisque.  They didn't have lobster bisque on their menu that I saw.  The corn and crab bisque was delicious though.   www.lucillesfreshcat ch.com/Menu.html Haven't been to Monument Inn in years.  We use to live within 5 miles of there and it was a frequent dining out spot when we were hungry for shrimp.  Back then we didn't have much money, so it wasn't every weekend like dining out is now.  (like we have that much money now - hahaha).  This Sunday we are going to try a new place down in San Leon - Topwater Grill.  Our friends down there say it is great, so we'll give it a try.  It says on Yelp that they have that lobster bisque you're wanting.  www.yelp.com/biz/top water-grill-san-leon

We won't go back to Lucille's after the skimpy food on top of huge mounds of greasy fries. For the price we could have gone to PAppas. As they say "first impressions . . . . ." Sorry but 8 thumb (topof your thumb) shrimp for $15.00. At Pappa's you get 3to 4 times that and they are larger. Never Again! 4951

They have a small takeout menu. I'll grab one and either post pics or list the highlights. 4951
