Well I shared a link about it on Facebook and one friend said maybe it's a mangey raccoon.
I jokingly said I was gonna try to catch one and shave it. Until the opportunity really did present itself! I saw a raccoon up in a tree in my yard and I managed to snar it.

Here's the chupacabra on the news....

There are about 5 others in different states found in past 3 or so years and they were all said to be hairless racoons from vets. But it seems its not mange its just a rare genetic defect. The newest one looked like a sick wallaby to me....LOL 4951

It sure gripped that cage like a raccoon, and it obviously eats exactly like a raccoon! The expert made me laugh when he said it was definitely some kind of canine. However, "Bubba," the expert raccoon hunter, claimed he'd never heard a one growl...now that was a real crack up! We had two out back eating loquats off the tree last year. When one decided it didn't want to share with the other, they sounded like two dogs about to rip each other apart with all the snarling and growling they were doing. 4951

@attila:  You are absolutely correct! Raccoons can definitely growl. One was digging in our trash late one night.  The dogs inside started going crazy.  The 'coon just growled at them.  I turned the light on and it growled louder, but didn't leave.  It finally left when I banged and rattled on the door. 4951

I strongly believe that the "chupacabras" that have been seen are actually sick/mangy or genetic anomalies of dogs or coyotes. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: I agree. They appear much larger than the average raccoon.  Not to mention that raccoon are usually not very fast.

@Retired_Engineer, a cross-breed maybe? I know in at least two of the areas where people spotted these "chupacabras" there are breeders of these animals. That would be in regard to the ones that are more coyote-like. The caged one in the video sure acts like a raccoon, especially given the fact that they saw it on the platform on the tree. 4951

@DiverDude:

Trust me bro, raccoons are fast! I can't tell you how many I've come across on bridges on that locomotive of mine going anywhere between 20 - 50 mph and they manage to run out of the way. 4951
