I've been rolling around the idea of starting a grocery delivery service for Kingwood. Do you think people would be interested in a service like this?

@zanne71: I would be interested as I despise going to the grocery store, trying to weave my way through narrow aisles, amongst chatting people who don't seem to realize that they are completely blocking the aisle. By the time I get through there I'm ready to ram my cart into that stack of canned meats that's protruding into my path. I hate how they put the bread first in the store so that I have baby it all the way to the end of the store to avoid having flat bread. Trying to pick up boxes of soda that always have the pick-up hole on the bottom of the box forcing me to flip that heavy box twice just to be able to lift it up. There is NOTHING I like about going to the grocery! That said, I did try a grocery delivery service called "Peapod" many years ago and they could never get the frozen stuff to me before it thawed. But liquid Blue Bell is still better than grocery shopping anytime!

I would think it would be a great service for very busy people, the elderly, homebound or people like QueenB who cannot stand grocery shopping.  But do take a clue from her experience with Peapod - don't over plan your shopping customers so you let their frozen food melt or they perishables perish. Do only one customer at a time and shop as close to the customer as possible so the cold stuff stays cold.  Good luck with your venture.  4951

I've lived overseas for most of my life, all my stores did home delivery, cheaper delivery prices in the mornings and slightly higher in peak times.  Was a life saver, placed an order over the internet and picked the delivery date and time.  I also had a standing order weekly that was picked and delivered then added to it if need be.  4951

most home delivery services carry styfoam coolers to keep the cold stuff cold  & usually set up a delivery time & date so it will be fresh & frozen still frozen when you receive it. Most of the stores in our area ( KY.) will deliver your order for a small fee for gas & of course you tip the driver , usually 10 to 15 % of the grocery bill ( just like you would in a restaurant) . So that being said ...just remember you will not be able to catch any "in store sales"  or actually see the fruits & veggies  if you have delivery service. I hate to shop , but I still go because I do get to see all my produce  before I put it into my cart & I catch all the "in store sales" that are not advertised in the paper. I do not have to tip anyone  & my groceries arrive at the same time I do ..... 4951

I hate putting groceries away. I would pay someone to do that for me. 4951

Great idea. We went to new Orleans a few weeks ago and had someone deliver booze and cigs to us after we got hammered. It was awesome. 4951

Up North the one chain of grocery stores just started a Curbside pickup service. You order online and then just drive up. For years I said that stores should do that for at least small orders. I hated only needing milk and eggs, and having to get my kids out of carseats after picking up from daycare (which was on the campus I worked at), just to drag them in for a couple of items. That said, I love grocery shopping bc it gives me an excuse to get out of the house, alone, and take my time and use coupons. I try to avoid taking any of the kids at all costs - grocery shopping, oddly enough, is "me" time! And I just learned that some of the grocery stores will deliver to you here - interesting! 4951

@Wooderson: Not to hijack the great business model going in this thread but I tell you a kick **** way to make money would be to set up shop in New Orleans as a mobile hangover helper specialist.  Be able to go to your clients, put in an IV to get you re-hydrated and provide portable Oxygen.  Basically turn you back into a drinking machine in 1 hour.  Income would be insane.  Anybody do this, I get a cut in the profits for the idea.    4951
