Your so right.  I saw the quote that said "Why do you have so much of a problem having trust in me.....the other person states .... because you have such a hard problem telling the honest truth!!!!!! 4951

I suppose the question is do we want the absolute truth?  For instance, it has become sport in our society for people to accuse politicians of lying.  Perhaps they lie (assuming they intentionally do) because we have taught them to.  Consider this, a person running for an elected office like governor or president states in order to balance the budget I'm going to propose raising your taxes.  I know this will not be popular, but it's necessary in the short term in order to balance the books.  Additionally, I don't subscribe to the idea of no child left behind.  Unfortunately there will be some children that will be left behind because they can't keep up with the curriculum.  Accordingly these children will not be on the college track.  Instead they will be trained in an industry teachers have determined is best suited to their abilities. Now can you imagine a politician being that brutally honest having a snowball chance in hell of getting elected?  If the answer is no, then that's why they do not always tell the truth, and we have effectively taught them to lie.  And I'm certain this holds true for other people and situations we encounter in life through associates, friends, or family. 4951

@rocket bunk...that's the same as teaching our kids to lie because there will be consequences if they tell the truth. Life hurts sometimes. 4951

@BooBear:  I'm only making the point that sometimes, perhaps unintentionally, we encourage people to lie to us.  I'm not putting forth a moral argument here.  I'm merely providing food for thought.

One of the biggest underlying reasons for lying is fear. Fear of rejection, fear of what the truth uncovers, fear of vulnerability.

The truth hurts often times and we humans don't like pain. But the flip side of that is honesty is always a better foundation, even if it's painful. Without honesty/communication you let "things" take on a life of their own giving it power to effect things and cause things that might actually be false to exist. As in relationships where you don't/can't speak the truth. Not saying something where correction or communication is needed, just gives power to falsehoods. A whole world of falsehoods can develop that actually cause nothing but things that shouldn't exist or they should be completely dismantled.

The truth hurts, but it's worth having the hurt in order to be perusing something healthy and valuable. Lies are a house if cards. 4951
