This seems to be an ongoing debate as to what some call their right and there are others who beg to differ. This post comes from my morning talk radio show I listen to daily.

What are your views/opinions on gay marriage and them having equal rights? Do you feel that gays/lesbians should be allowed to marry and have the same benefits as heterosexual marriages? I’m not trying to start an argument or offend anyone what so ever, just wondering what others think of the issue at hand. Seems like there are a lot of states who are not all on the same page, some have passed it and some have not. This looks to be an issue that is going to be wrapped up in the higher courts for some time to come.

I know you can’t tell people who they can fall in love with, but I do not condone same sex marriages. 4951

They should be able to get married in my opinion, because I believe the denying them that right is unconstitutional. I do not defer to the Bible at all in this matter, because the last time I checked, the Supreme Document in this land is the Constitution and not the Bible. I also believe if we're going to defer to the Bible in this matter pertaining to marriage, we should do it for all other matters, meaning that divorce except in extreme circumstances should be illegal, because God says he hates divorce. That's my opinion. 4951

I see no reason why not. They only thing I don't agree with is making churches that may not agree with their lifestyle marry them

@mm4731: I don't agree with that, either. Churches should not be forced to participate in the wedding ceremonies.

Call it marriage, civil unions or whatever you want but they definitely deserve to have the same rights and protections we have when it comes to benefits, health insurance, estate planning and any other civil right. On the religious side of it, each church should act as they see fit. And people who oppose same-sex marriage should have the right to say so in public without being chastised. Don't make demos out of those who don't agree with you. Religious beliefs are stong and people will not change them just because the media says so. At the same time those who oppose it need to learn to ACCEPT that homosexuality is not a choice (even if they think it is a sin). We need tolerance on both sides 4951

@GoldenGirl: I concur! I am old school too, I have gay friends on both sides. I would never offend them but I do not agree with their lifestyle. 4951

i love everyone equally and i do not bash or hate on anyone who loves the same sex....but i believe in my opinion that it is not right in God's eyes. He made for a man a women to be together and to be married. I don't agree with it or believe it should be accepted. Our world has made a lot of stuff unconstitutional or constitutional. They have made it okay for a women to kill a child inside there stomachs, they have made a drug legal in a few states now. I think our world is so effed up its insane. but i just have lots of love for everyone so i still love people who love the same sex or do this or do that. I just don't agree with their views or think its right. I believe in GOD and only him and his word and what it states. 4951

I think there would be fewer issues if gays would accept the concept of civil unions with equal rights, with which I have no problem.  But many gays do not want it called something different.
When you start talking marriage, you start stepping into religious areas, and from there arises much of the opposition. 4951

As long as it's two consenting adults bang who you want, marry who you want but don't force the issue on churches. They get to choose who they will marry, though they kind of are a business so I could see the other sides point as well.

Marriage is an institution with rules/requirements.  It isn't a right.  If marriage is a right, if it must change to accommodate things that aren't marriage, then no institution can have requirements. 4951

@TXSunDvl:  To me there is no difference between a marriage and a civil union.

equal rights mean you can marry the person of your choosing...therefore gay marriage is an equal rights issue. remember 'god doesn't make mistakes'? and why should straight people be the only ones to suffer? 4951
