Hi, I am pretty sure I am reaching, but does anyone know of a gay friendly church in the area? My partner and I have been living in the area for over a year but haven't found a church home. We are afraid to walk into a church and offend someone whose beliefs strongly oppose our relationship (not like we are all over each other but it's obvious we are a couple). We know we can drive into town but we would really like something closer to home. We would love something with modern/contemporary worship. Any suggestions? We have emailed a few churches but have not heard back. Thanks in advance.

Good luck in your search Kate and prayers to you and your partner. I would call some local churches in the Montrose area but locally you are going to be limited. The church I go to does have some gay couples attend and they are still welcomed although many do not agree with them. 4951

Hopefully any church in the area.  Jesus loves everyone, not just those who consider themselves righteous.  ijs..."But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.'For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” ~Matthew 9:13 (NKJV)I pray you find a church home... 4951

It's gonna be hard (twss) to find a church that doesn't have at least one person that doesn't approve of two, hot women, disrobing each other, and gently caressing each others.........uhhh..... sorry, got of track there Emoticon

I say you go to whatever church you like and to hell with the people that have a problem with it

@mm4731:

How do we know they are two hot women? They might be, but how do you know?

There are Unitarian / universalist churches in Houston. I'm pretty sure they even have gay clergy. 4951

The Houston Press 2013 Best of Houston issue included a list of gay-friendly churches:http://blogs.houstonpress.com/artattack/2013/10/10_best_lgbt-friendly_churches.phpNone appear particularly close to the Humble/Kingwood area, but you might look for a closer church from the same denomination.  4951

Try a bunch out. No real Christian is going to turn you away. If they do, you'll have some answers.

I think you are wise not to be overly affectionate in public. Just be yourselves. But be respectful. Be classy. Churches should be welcoming you with love, if not, you won't want to be there any how.

If God is love, and you aren't getting that impression, best to move on any way. Even if someone is opposed to homosexuality as a personal opinion, that should not trump their believe in doing unto others and loving your neighbor as yourself. 4951
