Anyone know of a place where I can find a job for my 14 yo for the summer?  It seems like most places you have to be 16.  I'd like to keep it in Kingwood, Humble or Porter since we'll have to drive her to work. 4951

I think you pretty much have to be 16 to have a job these days. Maybe try kids in action? Or summer camps in general, I think they hire younger than 16. 4951

Some companies even require you to be 18. I am pretty sure that is the requirement for Pier 1. Maybe, she can try babysitting for neighbors. 14 is pretty young to hold down a job. 4951

@jls2:

Babysitting is great, forgot about that one. I made decent money babysitting in high school. 4951

I would not hire a 14 year old to mow my lawn when I pay a professional lawn service the same amount of money. 4951

My first job was at 14. Also an ice cream and snowball place. Worked there all through highschool. Same as Pharlap , a very long time ago. I think to get a job that young will have to be through someone who owns a business.    4951

Thank you for the suggestions. Hopefully, I'll find something because she doesn't need to be home all day, sleeping until noon for 3 months. 4951

A lot of churches have very active youth groups during the summer, but not something all day everyday.  You might also consider volunteer work for her and might find places willing to let her work that way.  The local community colleges also have continuing education so you might consider a hobby type class for her like photography, etc. 4951

@ittabit: Volunteering is a great idea! Animal shelters and Humble Area Ministries are two that I can think of right now.

My wife was a volunteer candy striper at a hospital the summer she was 14.  Yep they stilled called them that back then.   The reference she got from volunteering that summer landed her, her first job at the age of 15 in a store at the mall.  She had to have her parents signature on paperwork from some child labor government work office to work at 15. 4951

Good luck. My daughter has been begging for jobs since she was 14. She turned 16 in February and starts a job on April 30th. Emoticon 4951

I won't hire 14 year olds (is it legal?), heck, I hate hiring 18 year olds ha. I did the candy striper thing when I was 14 or 15 too. My best friend and I worked in the kitchen and served meals...great experience.  4951
