Son is working..they told him he would be making $7.50 an hour. I recently looked at his stub and noticed his rate is $7.25. I asked travis and he said he would ask manager. Tonight he tells me he asked about it and the manager told him every ones looks like that and they will get the difference at tax time. I dont know 100% if travis heard correctly or asked the right questions.

One other thing is Travis told me that since he is new, he doesnt have authority to count his drawer...I get that. I asked him if he is there when the managers count it and he tells him to go ahead and go home and he would count it for him. I asked if it ever came up short, travis just said they haven't talked to him about it if it has.
I DID give him a quick lesson on CYA and to always be present when they count his drawer. 4951

@BooBear - if his hourly rate is $7.50, it should show that amount on his paycheck. How would he get more per hour when he filed his taxes? Is that what the manager meant? 4951

@jls2: it doesn't make sense. I hope they are not just taking advantage of the kids who don't know better.

your paycheck and stub is a legal document that shows the amount you are paid (per hour in this case )and the hours he works since it is paid by the hour...he has to correct it NOW. if he waits, they will just say it's been too long. do you have documents showing the hiring rate as 7.50? in that case, he needs to contact payroll and get it straightened out. he won't get anything at tax time to make up the difference.and NEVER not be there when your till is counted. the manager doesn't want to pay him to be there but he is responsible for the till and gets shortages taken out of his wages right? since the manager is lying already about the wage rate, why wouldn't he or she lie about shortages either to put extra in his or her own pocket or to increase the take for the restaurant to offset having to hire employees 4951

oh there is one way that he could be getting the 7.50 an hour...on the w-2 form when he gets his yearly income statement....so he would owe the tax on the ten dollars a week he wasn't paid. this could be kind of a nice racket...say you have 25 employees and they all get shorted 25 cents an hour...that's 250 a week or a grand a month and tax free if you get to claim it went out as wages to some poor kids so they get to pay taxes on an extra 500 a year they never see.... 4951

I would definitely step in and say something. If that manager won't do anything about it, then go over their head. If it still doesn't get corrected, I'd take it to the BBB. I hate to be mean like that to anybody, but they are the adults and need to know better. That, and I HATE seeing people getting taken advantage of. 4951

usually it is the wage and hours section of the labor department. texas may have a state department of labor that keeps people like your son from getting underpaid. do you have papers telling the hiring wage or a copy of the ad that listed the offered wage? 4951

I would step in for sure, and when my son worked at Randall's as a cashier, he had to always count his drawer before and after his shift and the manager signed off on it. He needs to always be present when the manager counts his drawer. I'd be making an appointment to see his manager ASAP!

Two things I don't allow no one to play with concerning me, my son and my money, I get very emotional over the two! I'll walk through hell with gasoline on me pertaining to that child!!! 4951

I'm thinking I should just let him handle it. Michael thinks he should quit. I did tell him I don't care how late it is, he needs to be there when the drawer is counted. Travis is more like me in that he avoids confrontation. 4951

@BooBear: buy him a little recorder so he can record the conversations between him and his manager. also make him write down everything he wants to say/ask, that way he doesn't forget when he meets with managment
@mm4731: Do he have to notify them that the conversation is being recorded? I'm not sure if that would be a good idea...... 4951
