You may have better luck getting the attention of the person if you put Barretts Espphagus in the title...    Just thought it may help. 4951

My dh has Barrett's . He was DX'ed with a scope and put on prescription meds ( can't remember- Prevacid maybe?). For a couple of years he had to get scoped every year but the Barrett's shrunk and reduced to the point where he gets scoped every 2-3 years. It's very important you take care of this- our next door neighbor died of esophageal cancer at age 36. Because of him My dh got scoped and found out he has Barrett's. 4951

I am just seeing this now.  I had an endoscopy and that is how it got diagnosed.  I had been feeling poorly for a long while.  I am on Dexilant but that was not helping me so my doctor not put me on misprostol with the Dexilant.  I think the Dexilant helps with the acid but the misprostol gets the motility going.  I am also on sucralfate.  If this does not work, I might consider the new surgery the Linx Reflux Management System.  It is a magnetic ring that keeps the valve to the stomach closed and opens when eating.  Acid is always coming up on me.  My doctor discovered with an manometry that my valve worked at only 30%.  I am been really restricted on what I can eat.  Emoticonractically everything would bother me!   4951

@calliecat: My doc hasn't done the scope yet...I'm terrified but she said I don't need anesthesia which always makes me sick. She prescribed Dexilant so I will see if that helps. She said I can take it along with my heartburn acid reducer otc med. All I know is the Nexium was great but it didn't heal me in 3 months like I would have liked. She said if this doesn't work I will need the scope for sure.

@calliecatWhat kind of diet are you on? I also have a cholesterol issue where my Triglycerides arehigh so I have to be off carbs. Between that and no acidic stuff, it's torture! 4951

@AllyThe Nexium did not work but one time with another doctor he doubled the dose to two times a day.  It helped for a bit.  I just saw a new primary care doctor and he told me he has Barrett's Esophagus.  He told me in addition to the Dexilant, the misprostol, sucralfate that I could take over the counter Zantac twice a day.  I had high cholesterol and have been on 10mg of Crestor.  My diet is very bland.  No spicy, no fried foods, no tomatoes, no chocolate no caffeine no soda, no acidic foods, no peppermint and no high fat foods.   It is awful!  When I go to my husbands family for dinner, they tell me to bring my own dish that I can eat.  They really do not cook and buy Italian foods which is the worst for me.  I was so bad that I would sleep sitting up and even then I could not sleep with the pain.  I always try to find grilled chicken, lots of fish like Salmon, steak.  Everything is bland! 4951

@calliecat: I'm 100% Italian so not eating Italian is blasphemous. LOL
Does this ever get better or do you have to take meds the rest of your life? This whole thing started when I was pregnant with my 3rd child. I'd pop tums like candy. I still have a huge bottle in my purse just in case. I really hope this med works. 4951

My son goes to Dr. Mary Beaver for his vocal cord issues. She did his surgery. She's a throat/esophageal expert. Check her out online. I always get a second opinion when it comes to meds and procedures. Good luck! 4951

@AllyI hate to tell you that I got worse.  I have had problems for 20 years!  I was not responding to the meds and got a lot worse this past year.  My doctor is a firm believer of trying different meds to trick the brain!.  My new primary care doctor even mentioned the surgery to me.  Only 26  doctors in the country perform this new Linx surgery.  I think they will only do it if all else fails.  How long has it been going on for you? BTW, I am half Italian.  I stay away from pizza, and most Italian foods.  I will suffer with pain and I have vomited.  Sorry to be graphic! 4951
