@kingwooddotcom and anyone using Firefox on your Windows 8.1 PC:I've recently noticed that my Firefox browser tends to "bog down" after I've been browsing for a while.  By bogging down, I mean that the Menu items at the top of the window don't work, I cannot download pictures, and typing in a KDC post will freeze up.  Just restarting Firefox doesn't solve the problems.  I have to close Firefox and then restart Windows and reopen Firefox for it to return to normal.  I have the latest version of Firefox and Windows 8.1.  The problems were first noticed right after there were a batch of Windows Updates and Firefox updated to v 27.0.1 within about the same day.   After various testings, I've discovered that it only "bogs down"  when I open KDC and leave it open in a Tab while I use other Tabs to do genealogy research, or just browse my regular websites.  Last night, I closed KDC when I was doing genealogy research and I had no problems after more than two hours.  If I leave KDC open, I will start to have these problems after 30-45 minutes.  This is not a major issue, but beware if you use Firefox in Windows 8.1.   The short answer is to close KDC while doing other browsing.  Not a perfect solution, but a workable one.I just wanted to give others a "heads up" in case you were experiencing similar problems. 4951

@ProblemAgain:  Thanks!  I tried backing up to Firefox v 27.0 (from v 27.0.1) but had the same problems.  I had read that I can go back to v 26.  What have you done?I tried v 27.0 and since I kept having the same problems, I let it update to v 27.0.1 today and the problems seem to happen sooner with it.  I could barely type that OP because it froze up several times.

started using two browsers...not that i like it....but firefox at the moment doesn't seem to be fixable.when you get too many tabs open the whole program freezes and crashes..i send off the reports with the box checked that they can contact me yet i never hear from them so i figure they are like cellphone companies or cable tv...it does take away from the enjoyment of the internet experience (they never ever heard of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it') 4951

@ProblemAgain:  I've been curious about Chrome so I guess this is the time to load it and try it.

@ProblemAgain:  I also had Firefox setup just right.  Chrome will import your Favorites from Firefox but it doesn't have the same add-ons.  Firefox didn't "force" me to update..... it just kept popping up an annoying Window encouraging me to update.Anyway, I'm glad it's not a KDC problem.  I enjoy leaving it open while I'm doing other things and then checking it to see what's going on.

@Retired_Engineer -- closing Firefox (the entire program, not just a tab), should fix it...Firefox can't still hang on to memory if it's completely closed...sometimes Firefox won't close properly, so you'll have to hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and go to the "Task Manager" and select the program and close it down that way...My favorite browser is Firefox, but they've had these issues with it eating up memory, and not completely closing, for many, many versions...it's pretty annoying. 4951

I find that the more tabs you have open, the more memory is used.Check processes in task manager if you don't believe me.KDC does an auto refresh and this is possible to add more to the temp cache for that page.Have you tried clearing history and cache when this happens? Closing the browser usually does not do that unless you specifically tell it to do that when you exit.I've noticed that with IE/Chrome and FF that the longer they are open with multiple tabs, that odd things can happen. It's different with browser and version.I usually have the delete the history and cache (but usually not cookies).Chrome has a nice extension for managing cookies. I can set the ones I want to keep, and delete the rest.  4951

@KingwoodDotCom:  Thanks.  I have been closing Firefox, but as you state, it must not be closing properly.  In Window 8.1, I have added Task Manager to my Start bar along the bottom (we've gotten very familiar during these problems).  Fortunately rebooting Windows 8.1 is really fast!I had noticed, even with previous versions of Firefox, that if I left Firefox open while I ate dinner or took a break, when I came back Firefox had often shutdown due to "errors".I loaded Chrome last night. It's OK, but I like Firefox better.  I just hope Mozilla gets it fixed!

@FoFa: Clearing history and cache was the first thing I wanted to do, but all of the Menu items at the top of FF wouldn't work.  Maybe I'll try clearing every 10-15 minutes to see if that helps.

@Retired_Engineer: That is typically an indication (bar malware and viruses, etc) that it is the program itself (browser in this case).
